This is a quote from the lds.org web site in the April 1973 edition on the New Era magazine under Policies and Procedures: Statement on Abortion.

“The Church opposes abortion and counsels its members not to submit to or perform an abortion except in the rare cases where, in the opinion of competent medical counsel, the life or good health of the mother is seriously endangered or where the pregnancy was caused by rape and produces serious emotional trauma in the mother. Even then it should be done only after counseling with the local presiding priesthood authority and after receiving divine confirmation through prayer.”

Yes, it’s the form of Christianity that believes that the Holy Ghost will sometimes tell you to murder your baby. :tsktsk:

Paul
Think about the logic behind this: A woman is raped yet so “justice can be served” she feels the need to turn around and murder an innocent child?

Anyone who allows for abortion in the case of rape shows they truly dont understand the issue at stake.

Im not saying rape is a good thing, but that “no abortion except for rape” clause is fallacious and dangerous reasoning.

Quote by zerinus:
Mormonism is the only form of true Christianity. What you believe in is an apostate, false, and dead religion, and the antithesis of true Christianity.

zerinus

This is the teaching of mormonism, how can you claim to support a “religion” that makes such a statement? Does zerinus speak truth, or is he a liar?
From the mormon perspective he speaks partial truth. However, mormons would also claim that many other christian churches do have trues in their doctrine. But still they are apostate.

I know of only two christian chruches that claim absolute truth: the lds and the catholic. The protestants wouldn’t dare claim truth.

And the catholic church would murder the mother if her life was threatened by giving birth. Life is not so simple when it comes to murder, is it?

Wrong! You do not understand Catholic teaching on this subject. Medical science may try to save the life of the mother through surgery or any other method. What we cannot do is directly abort the baby. If whatever the doctors do to save the mother accidentally makes it impossible for the baby to survive (as happens when they remove a fallopian tube ruptured by a tubal pregnancy), then it is an unintended consequence, not an abortion.

Besides, Mormonism allows abortion in a wide variety of circumstances, not just to save the life of the mother. When I was counselor to a bishop, I saw him give permission to several women to have abortions simply because they were depressed about the prospect of yet another child to support and care for.

The Mormon guidelines allow for abortion to protect “the good health of the mother”. That is often interpreted to mean the good psychological health of the mother. So if she’s bummed out about having another child, she can get the church’s permission to kill it.

So sad,
Paul

“Murder” the mother? If you examine that statement for even a second, you will see how stupid it is. Firstly, cases of the possibility of maternal death if the child is not killed are excedeingly rare. Secondly, medicine has advanced to the point were these decisions are rarely, if ever, necessary. Murder is an act of commision, abortion is an act of commision. Abortion is seldom, if ever, committed out of necessity, it is most often committed for convenience. I have been in the medical field for thirty years, I have never encountered a woman who “needed” an abortion. A woman should “prayerfully” consider killing her child? Who is she praying to, Satan? Your lack of logic is remarkable.

And one of these churches – by virtue of the fact that it teaches such doctrines as God is nothing more than an “exalted man with a body of flesh and bones,” that Jesus Christ is the “spirit brother” of Lucifer, and that men can become gods and that God the Father has a god above him, who has a god above him, ad infinitum – cannot claim to be Christian.

So that would leave just the Catholic Church as the Fullness of Truth.

Your religion is apostate. It apostatized centuries ago when the Apostles died. The “Creeds” and the “Symbols of Faith” were formulated by an apostate religion with no authority from God. And they certainly were not “agreed upon by the entire church”.
If this were true, then you ought to be able to show us a long list of writings that date from between the first Pentecost and 100-110 AD (when the apostle John died) that clearly demonstrate that the earliest Christians believed that God is nothing more than an “exalted man with a body of flesh and bones,” that Jesus Christ is the “spirit brother” of Lucifer, that men can become gods and that God the Father has a god above him, who has a god above him, ad infinitum, or for that matter any other Mormon doctrine not even found in the “fullness of the everlasting gospel” Book of Mormon.

100-110 AD (when the apostle John died)
Then again, Doctrine and Covenants 7:1-3 states,

AND the Lord said unto me: John, my beloved, what desirest thou? For if you shall ask what you will, it shall be granted unto you. And I said unto him: Lord, give unto me power over death, that I may live and bring souls unto thee. And the Lord said unto me: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, because thou desirest this thou shalt tarry until I come in my glory, and shalt prophesy before nations, kindreds, tongues and people

So, given that the Apostle John is believed to still be alive, how can there have been a “great apostacy”?

I think the problem is that people view an unborn child as a thing, not a person. A tumor, an appendix, a fetus…all the same thing.

Giving birth is a dangerous proposition. Women through the ages have died in childbirth. Sometimes the child survived, sometimes it didn’t. Now, modern medical science alleviates most of the danger, but not all. (Unless you live in a third world country where child mortality and deaths in child birth are still high.) The unborn child and the mother should be treated as EQUAL lives worth saving. The goal should be to use whatever is medically possible, feasible and sensible to keep them BOTH alive. The idea is that nothing should be done to PURPOSELY take either life.

Then again, Doctrine and Covenants 7:1-3 states,

Good question, and why isn’t he prophesizing 'before nations, kindreds, tongues and people"?🤷

There was a thread on this very issue a while back, I cant remember what answer, if any, we got for where exactly John (whom the D&C passage say didnt die) is.

The Apostle John is still alive?
Doctrine and Covenants 7:1-3 states,

“AND the Lord said unto me: John, my beloved, what desirest thou? For if you shall ask what you will, it shall be granted unto you. And I said unto him: Lord, give unto me power over death, that I may live and bring souls unto thee. BYU Professor Robert Millet noted that not only was the Apostle John still alive, but that “Three “Nephites” mentioned in the Book of Mormon were also living today in a translated state

I’m confused at how The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not resemble Christianity. The basic definition of Christianity is that you accept Christ as your savior and Redeemer. Got that covered. What next? LDS are faithful Christians who accept Christ. They see him as their Redeemer and the only way to enter into the Kingdom of God is to repent through the atonement of Christ. Jesus was crucified and resurrected that we may all be resurrected and return to live with our Heavenly Father again. I fail to see how this qualifies us as Non-Christian.
The mormons do not believe that Jesus is God. They do believe that God (the father) was a good mormon on another world and grew in perfection and was given this world to be god of. And if a (male only) good mormon grows far enough in perfection he (only males, remember) will be given a world to be a god for it.

Mormons use similar sounding terms like “Christ” and “Saviour” but the theology is totally different than Christianity, it’s a different religion.
