Not surprising that Isreal is one of the few that consistantly vote with us. (89% with… 11% against)

Now any sensible person looking at these sorts of figures would ask themselves WHY people vote against them Could it possibly be that the US is WRONG? Even the UK has, according to this a 40% against vote, this should be telling you something. But then again I suppose the States will carry on as it always has blaming the rest of the world instead of indulging in a little self criticism.

Considering the fact that we pay their bills it’s not suprising at all. They aren’t our colony, but we are their sugar-daddy, and they’re the first to admit it.

I’m not saying this is good OR bad, I’m just pointing out an important point to the equation. There are far worse countries that could be voting with us consistantly.

I don’t understand what you are saying here. Could explain in a little more depth please?

I understood him just fine and agree with him. The U.S Govt needs to look inward once in awhile

Theres an old saying used by the police when investigating such crimes a murder:

Before looking at the outlaws, look at the inlaws.

These statistics indicate that many countries (not all of them outwardly hostile to the US) have voted extensively against the US in the UN. That raises questions of why? Any sensible person, seeing such a situation would begin to question their own motives and behaviour before blaming the rest of the world. Iraq was a prime example, the vast majority of the worlds population said NO, including a majority of the British people, (not Tony Blair, but whose surprised at that!). But, the American attitude is;
WE WERE RIGHT YOU ARE ALL WRONG.
No questioning, no self analysis, not even any regret about all the deaths that have been casued, just an ongoing policy of denial, rhetoric and in many cases accusations of “aiding and abbeting the enemy” to anyone who has the temerity to question their policies.
It may be that it is this every attitude that causes many countries to vote against the US, almost as a matter perversity, when you have been ridden over roughshod enough times the issues no longer count, it is simply a matter of revenge or pay back.
Why do countries mistrust America? You only have to look at the past, at the number of countries and individuals once supported by America and then turned on when it suited their politics. Even the UK suffered from this level of deception with the support America gave to the IRA.
It would be easy to go on sighting case after case but, until the American people themselves become a little more self critical and start asking the hard questions of their own politicians and people in authority the rest of the world is going to continue apposing what it sees as an overbearing and self centered country.

Like you bow down to the UN? :bowdown2:

As evil as the UN is in pushing murder(abortion), contraceptives, oil-for-food scandal. Not to mention the countries most vocal about us going and freeing Iraq were the ones that had deals with them France/Germany/Russia… i’m surprised anyone sides with the UN. Perhaps if you didn’t worship the UN so much… you’d see that.

Thank you for that typical American response, it amply justifies my original statements. You assume that I and others have a “Love” affair with the UN. You consequently assume that it is this, that effects ones attitude to the US and you therefore assume that any anti Americanism is a result of this partisanship. Assumption, assumption, assumption. what you fail to do is take a realistic WORLD approach to American overseas policy. For many countries the ONLY forum for showing their displeasure or sometimes opposition to American policy IS the UN. Therefore it is surely encumbant on America to look again at that policy and ask IS IT CORRECT? than to constantly harp on about how the rest of the world dislikes you but how wonderful you are at sending lots and lots of aid. (Even that description: aid, is questionable when you look at all the economic strings attached).

I go back to my original statement, before you look at the rest of the world and judge their actions and behaviour be very, very sure that your own behaviour is right and beyond criticism, because if it isn’t the rest of the world will be in constant conflict with you. It goes back to a subject on another thread about respect, respect is not a right, it has to be earned and trying to earn respect by military might doesn’t work, all it does is create more enemies. if you don’t believe me ask the old leaders of the British Empire, the Chinese dynasty’s, the German Third Reich, the Roman Empire et. al. They all fell eventually because they tried to conquer people by arms. It doesn’t work.

I asked for an explanation of this statement:

What you have given is a tautology of unsupported anti-Americanism. This does not constitute an explanation. As for self-criticism, do you suppose England might offer a bit of that as an example? To wit: Churchill/Iraq?

What is a typical American response?

Hatred doesn’t require justification. Anti-americanism is what it is.

As opposed to what? Unsupported, highly rhetorical assertions?

Realistic according to whose standards?

The UN is ineffectual and corrupt. Viz, Rwanda.

If you don’t want the aid then don’t take it. Oh, would that be admitting that not only the US has ‘strings’? Who gets to have ‘strings’? Who gets to say who has ‘strings’?

Equivocation. There is the respect that is required among ‘civilized’ peoples: courtesy, if you will, good manners. And example of disrespect in this respect is the phrase ‘that typical American response.’

On the other hand, there is the respect accorded to those who have conducted themselves in a heroic fashion. Again, who gets to determine what is heroic and on what basis? Moreover, in the event that someone is not deemed to be made of heroic stuff, does not mean that he should be subjected to the bad manners of those who disapprove of him.

When Idi Amin asked an Isreali government official for Israeli military aircraft, the official responded thus, “Would you like another cup of tea?” This is an example of someone not made of heroic stuff being treated with good manners.

‘Conquer’? Could you please explain your use of the term ‘conquer’ in this context?

Conquer? Well, we did win WWII against the Japanese. Then, we helped them rebuild. They’ve done very well, but they’re having economic hurdles right now. We’ve done very well, but we’re having economic hurdles right now. What’s your point?

Your posts are making me consider a strong turn to isolationism. Perhaps we should pull all of our troops out of other countries, stop all foreign aid, etc. I’m generally against that, but maybe it would be best.

Ppl like him would just cry and moan that we weren’t doing enough… again.
