What time was your Vigil Mass?

What time is your parish setting the Vigil Mass for Easter? Mine in the US had it at 7 p.m. Saturday, but here in Germany, they do things differently…we have no service Saturday, except for an early morning observance for Christ’s death, then the day is “Grabesruhe”, silence of the tomb. We had the Vigil Mass at 5 a.m.!!! Sunday! Oi, talk about getting up early, but it was worth it! I signed up to lector, the kids served, it was awesome! Needless to say, after almost 2 1/2 hours of Vigil, I didn’t feel like going again to the other 2 Masses offered 1 hour and 3 hours later. We also observe Easter Monday, we had our 3 Masses again today (2 in one parish church, 1 in the other), with the Emmaus reading. Now,my question: when do you guys back in the States hear that reading again? I can’t believe I forgot already! Anyway, please share, I’m so curious to hear how other countries celebrate! By the way, in the Vatican, they also had an early morning Vigil Mass, if I understood correctly…yeah Papa Bene!

Ours began at 8:00pm. We have someone in our parish who consults all the charts to make sure it is truly twilight. And since it was also overcast it was pretty dark.
 
Our Easter Vigil started at 8:00 pm and ended at 11:20 pm. We had a great number of new baptized, received, and confirmed, so it did take a while.

But what a mass! I was honored to sponsor a candidate and also be involved with our parish’s RCIA program. I also was the third reader for our seven Old Testament readings. Our bishop (John Ricard) was excellent as always, and the choir was in top form.

Overall, it was the ultimate way to begin the Easter Season.
 
Ours began at 8:00 and we were done at 10:30. Absolutely beautiful!!! It didn’t even seem as if it was 2 hrs!!
 
From 8:00PM till 10:15 PM…it could have lasted another 2 hours. as beautiful as it was…

What a joy to carry that feeling with me…it is with me still…🙂

Began: 8:30. Ended 11:30

My old parish was at 7:30 (Sunset 8:07 PM )
 
Ours started at 8 PM on Saturday. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend (😦 ), so I can’t say what time it ended.
 
Ours began at 7 and concluded around 10:30. All seven readings were included and many were welcomed into the church. Everything was just amazing. 👍

Well now, you truly had a vigil then. The Easter Vigil basically is a prayer service in anticipation of the Dawn that hearlds in Easter Sunday. The point of all those readings and psalms is to stretch out the time from the darkness to dawn. As dawn approaches then the Vigil enters into the Mass of the Resurrection. Ideally the triple alleluia and the gospel reading should be right at dawn. You were fortunate, you observed the vigil in its fullest sense. The earliest the church permits the Easter Fire to be lit is at twilight. My parish always has the vigil at 7:00pm Holy Saturday evening. But depending on what time of the year that is, it sometimes can still be too early. Ideally the sky should be pink and the stars start to appear when the fire is lit.
 
Ours was similar. We started at 3:30 AM outside at the fire, and ended at about 7:45. We had 35 baptisms, and 80 confirmations in total (I’m at a large parish, obviously). Probably 500-800 people at the Vigil Mass, including lots of little kids. What a great gift!

Ours, too, and three stars in the sky…dissipated (never really stopped) around 10:30 PM, when the last of the snacks after the Vigil had been eaten, the coffee and punch drunk, hugs and greetings to the newest Catholics, kids not sleeping rounded up…
 
Ours started at 7:30 and ended around 10:00. When I looked at my watch I couldn’t believe 2 1/2 hours had passed. It was so beautiful the time just seemed to fly by.
 
Ours started at 8pm. The fire was lit about 8:10 or so and then proceeded to the gym for all the readings. From there to the Church for the rest of the services and Mass.

I was kind of disappointed because I got there early and had already seen how beautifully the Church was decorated, before the Paschal candle was lit. But other thasn that it was wonderful!

Ended about 10:45.

Fire and lighting of the candle outside and boy, was it cold! Not dark, though. We in Indiana had to change out clocks 3 weeks early this year. So Father said if not for that it would have been dark.

Congratulations to all the new Catholics who were recieved. I had tears of joy for them, as did many.
