Just wondering what I should do if I can’t get to mass this weekend

If you cannot get to Mass, you can watch it online or on TV. You can read the Mass readings online.

How old are you, why can’t you attend Mass?
17 and the reason why I can’t go to mass is because tomorrow I am leaving the U.S. (just visiting) and my parents will probably not wake up to send me to mass early because they need to rest for the trip back to Canada, and we are leaving around lunch time…which is close to the only other mass time

If you can’t get to Mass you are excused from the obligation. You don’t have to do anything. However, if you can, it would be laudable to offer extra prayers or spend some time reading scripture, perhaps especially the Mass readings.

Latin Canon Law CIC:
Can. 1248 §2. If participation in the eucharistic celebration becomes impossible because of the absence of a sacred minister or for another grave cause, it is strongly recommended that the faithful take part in a liturgy of the word if such a liturgy is celebrated in a parish church or other sacred place according to the prescripts of the diocesan bishop or that they devote themselves to prayer for a suitable time alone, as a family, or, as the occasion permits, in groups of families.

If you absolutely can’t get to Mass, just do a holy hour and make a spiritual communion.
Or, if there is a televised Mass you could watch on EWTN or a local channel, you could watch that and make a spiritual communion.

Enjoy your trip @theCardinalbird and don’t worry about not being able to get to Mass .

Have you thought of reflecting on the real presence of Christ which will be within those around you ?

A priest once said , “I have no problem in believing in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist . My problem is in believing in the real presence of Christ within my neighbour .”

I usually send my priest an email and ask for dispensation to miss Mass if it’s unavoidable.

I realised last night that Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation, and we are travelling to a rural village that day. It’s unlikely I’d be able to get to Mass, so i just explained to my priest and he said fine, no problem.

I’ll probably watch a Mass online, which is so easy to do - there’s lots of choice!

…except that none of these ‘substitute’ for attendance at Mass. Rather, especially since he’s a minor and his parents are driving his schedule, then there’s no culpability on his part.

If it’s genuinely unavoidable, such as illness, child or elder care, dangerous weather, travel or necessary work, then no dispensation is needed.

If it’s because you want to do something else, then a dispensation is needed. Example, I participated in a weekend-long, 200 mile charity bike ride a few years ago, to raise funds for cancer research. I asked for, and was given a dispensation. Another example might be to participate in a family event.

I realized I could walk to mass as a Church is only 17 minutes away. But I didn’t choose to because I was tired from the trip yesterday from South Carolina to Pennsylvania 😓. I committed sin

Then get off your duff, young man, or you’ll need to turn in that bird-etta. You have an hour to rest up.
17 minutes is nothing, I used to walk that far to first grade, four times a day because we went home for lunch and then back.
