What does OP mean (since the person in question is probably not a Dominican).

I’m glad that you made it to Mass. Suggestion for when you absolutely, positively cannot get to Mass (e.g. serious illness): Send your Guardian Angel to Liturgy/Mass on your behalf. He will be happy to go for you.

P.S. Don’t get into the habit of sending your Guardian Angel when you can go. Obviously, he’s coming with you. 😉 😇

In the context of internet forums, OP is short hand for Original Poster or Original Post. (Depending on context.)

And if I may ask, what does OP mean in relation to Dominicans? (I’m not the most learned about the various orders.)

Thank you for the explanation.

To answer your question:

From Wikipedia:

The Order of Preachers (Latin: Ordo Praedicatorum , postnominal abbreviation OP ), also known as the Dominican Order , is a mendicant Catholic religious order founded by the Spanish priest Dominic of Caleruega in France, approved by Pope Honorius III via the Papal bull Religiosam vitam on 22 December 1216. Members of the order, who are referred to as Dominicans , generally carry the letters OP after their names, standing for Ordinis Praedicatorum , meaning of the Order of Preachers .

I had an ancestor who kept a diary. Every Sunday he went to mass. On those Sundays when (for a good reason) he was unable to go to mass he wrote that he read from his mass book. I think that a Sunday Missal is a good investment. You can study the readings before whatever Sunday you are going to mass and in the situation where you will be unable to get to mass you can make it a special point to study the readings.
