What to do with my old books on Freemasonry

Moderator please, if this is in the wrong place move it, apologies in advance.

Before I finished the sacraments, I was only a baptized Catholic and had thought very hard about joining freemasonry as a result I bought a few books about it. To my surprise it was while questioning my faith because of these books that I decided that it would be wrong to become a Freemason and instead I should become a full and practicing Catholic.

The point of this is I no longer want these books in the house and in the pit of my stomach I feel that I should throw out these books, not bring them to the goodwill and not sell them on ebay as I would usually do, but put that paper in the landfill and call it a day.

As I write this I don’t know exactly what I’m asking here, but certainly I would like to know if any of you have ever had this kind of experience before.
 
Burn’em! When I converted into the Church I made the decision to rid myself of any books that were in direct conflict of my faith. I’ll admit that I went through an extreme liberal phase in my 20’s and had many writings such as Communist Manifesto, Guerrilla Warfare, The Prince, among many others like by contemporary liberal author Thom Hartmann. I destroyed all of this stuff and have since destroyed much of my movie and music collection as well. I don’t miss any of it, at best it is a distraction and otherwise it is a negative influence.
 
You could burn them, throw them away, or recycle them. Just get rid of it. It might be more fun to burn them though. 😉
 
There’s a lot of interesting DIY stuff on Pinterest using old books and pages. Personally, I’d always thought it would be fun to have a hallowed out book to stash stuff and hide it in my book shelf.
 
I had a number of books on “New Age” … Course in Miracles type stuff. I knew I could not keep them. For better or for worse, I gave them to the local Unity Church and the folks there were simply thrilled to have them. I also had some Protestant writings that no longer fit with where I am at in my life. I gave these to a local Lutheran church. Again, they were just delighted to have them for their library. I had some recovery related books that I found a good home with in a therapist’s office for her clients.

Perhaps I was wrong to take this approach, but I have never been a “burn that book” type of person. The folks who received the books are well-established in their various belief systems, so I do not have a sense that I have lead anyone astray. Now perhaps if I had had books on witchcraft and magic … maybe then it would be a back yard marsh mellow roast. That said, I do see the point of the comments from folks who said “burn, destroy or recycle.”
 
Would someone here be willing to start a Catholic Answers Forum book-burning party? 😃
 
Burning books is loads of fun! Just ask the Nazis - they had a great time with it! A great way for fanatics to relieve their internal stress!

Nothing says “welcome to the dark ages” like a good book burning.

Make sure you also burn The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, too; it has that word in it. :rolleyes:
 
I have copies of the Talmud and other Jewish religious books. What about them? I was thinking of dropping them off at a local synagogue, but isn’t that kind of encouraging non-Christian faith?

Or what about Protestant books that are just really not Catholic, even if not directly heretical? My poor bookshelves are a tapestry of the journey of my soul, and it has been quite a trip.
 
Thank you all! Before I even got to read all of your comments I started tearing them up AND threw holy water on the pieces. I cannot burn them, I live in a rather large city; frankly book burning also makes me think of the nazis.

I was surprised to see that I was on to correct idea.

I think these are very different types of things from books on Freemasonry.
 
I’d be fine with recycling if first I soaked the pages down with a hose to make them unusable. Anything that you can’t keep because of your faith is bad enough to warrant care that they are not used to mess with other’s minds.

I don’t include all Protestant and Jewish books and resources in that category; they do have some good truth in them when they are not anti-Catholic. You just should not allow them to be a final say on any doctrine and be prepared to weed through their messy garden, sort of speak, but there are great blooming flowers there too.
 
My advise, burn them. You don’t want them in the hands of anyone else.
