To those of you who said sprinkle it with Holy Water, I’m curious. What is it exactly that is supposed to do? Has Holy Water become our magic pixie dust?
Oh ye of little faith!

The woman touched the tassle of Jesus’ cloak and was healed. Was it just a magic pixie tassel? People stood in line so that Peter’s shadow might fall on them and cure them. People have touched the foot of a statue of Peter out of faith for so many centuries that the toes of the foot are worn off.

Holy water in the hands of a priest was good enough to drive Satan from you at your baptism. Holy water is an effective means to drive the devil away.

But of course do not use* too much* Holy Water…for that would be an impediment to the coming flames…👍
Not to Elijah.

He built an altar in honor of the LORD with the stones, and made a trench around the altar large enough for two seahs of grain. When he had arranged the wood, he cut up the young bull and laid it on the wood. “Fill four jars with water,” he said, “and pour it over the holocaust and over the wood.” “Do it again,” he said, and they did it again. “Do it a third time,” he said, and they did it a third time. The water flowed around the altar, and the trench was filled with the water. At the time for offering sacrifice, the prophet Elijah came forward and said, “LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things by your command. Answer me, LORD! Answer me, that this people may know that you, LORD, are God and that you have brought them back to their senses.” The LORD’S fire came down and consumed the holocaust, wood, stones, and dust, and it lapped up the water in the trench. (1 Kings 18:32-38)

Don’t the eastern rites use the words “Answer me Lord! Answer me.” in the epiclisis?

I laughed when I just read that the Elijah prayed that God would bring the people back to thier senses.

Here is a link to the book: Crystal Children.

I haven’t done anything with it yet. We like to burn things around here. 😃 I’ll let you all know what I do.
Boy does that book look goofy! Do many New Age books are just laughable. How any one could take them seriously is truly a mystery to me!

Wow I just went to the link. Man I read that and was laughing so hard I nearly cried. Thank God for the Truth of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I think I am gonna ask that for my questions lol. Yeah definetly needs to be burned.

I am very confused by what I perceive to be the attitudes displayed in this thread.

The book is somehow evil by its very nature and needs to be destroyed. If it is not destroyed, it might be an occasion of sin for someone. Presumably, it is an occasion of sin because it might lead someone into superstition. So, of course in order to prevent an interest in superstition, one needs to sprinkle holy water and touch the foot of a statue.

If the book has no merit, anyone who reads it cannot possibly be harmed. Any reasonable person steadfast in his or her faith would easily refute whatever the author has to say. Is there a concern that the book does indeed have some merit?

I would say this book has no merit and should be disposed of on that basis. (Unless someone wants to keep it as an example of how goofy new age thinking can be.) However, there are people who have very little judgement and discernment who tend to read things like this, who could be possibly astray, so I would advise disposing of it just in case it got into the wrong hands.

The blurb is actually hilarious! I’d probably just recycle it. Not worth the propane to grill it.

A Guide to the Newest Generation of Psychic and Sensitive Children. Crystal Children are the new generation that has come to the Earth plane after the Indigo Children. They are approximately ages newborn through five, although some members of the first wave of Crystal Children are as old as seven. These kids are like Indigos—highly psychic and sensitive—but without the dark edge and the anger energy. Crystal Children are beautiful inside and out—one look in their eyes and you can see Divine love and wisdom. **Their auras are bright, radiant, and opalescent—they seem to glow from the inside! They talk about past lives, distant galaxies, and profound insights concerning peace and love. This book covers many issues that affect these special kids (such as healing abilities, connections to nature, eating habits, and so on) and also includes interviews with the Crystal Children themselves and their parents and teachers. It points out ways to keep these kids happy and healthy, and how to avoid the pitfalls that could spoil their special gifts.

Hey burning is always well worth the propane. I like what the lighter fluid does on the fire. Makes the flames even hotter and prettier. Hey try to burn the book at night, more of a bang for you buck lol. Fire is pretty at night. 👍

What is really sad is that books like this have just enough Christian-ish/Catholic-ish things to make them seem OK to many people. She writes about the Archangels, guardian angels, with some Jesus sprinkled in there. She even has oracle cards with saints like Padre Pio and Joan of Arc on them!

Even worse, the book was given to me by my mother - a lifelong Catholic. 😦

The book need to be disposed of, irrespective of whether it has merit or not. It advocates concepts that are contrary to Catholic teachings. Someone of languid faith or judgment may adopt some of the beliefs or tenets contained therein. I had a friend get seduced into this New Age inanity years ago and now believes she can read auras and divine the future.

I have a new age book that was given to me years ago. What should I do to get rid of it? Is wrong to give the book away or trade it? Is that leading someone to a near occasion of sin? Or should I just pitch it in the trash?
Honestly I dont approve of throwing away books or burning or banning. However, new ageism is hokey and boring. I have gotten some of my best books, walking by a trash can, and seeing what someone else thought was garbage, so this is not the best option. If you have any friends that are new age…Give it to them. I personally would probably read it to get to sleep at night. Boring. 😉 Id say, just bring it to a used book store. Its not for you or me to control what other people read. You may be amazed at the different text from other belief sytems I have. 🙂

I have a good friend who is Catholic yet believes in reincarnation :eek: She buys all sorts of new age books and pretty much absorbs everything without discrimination. She does believe in afterlife “psychics” like John Edwards, too. And, she thought the popular fiction book “The Shack” was just amazing. That book is full of heresies.

I have tried to tell her that there is no spirit world to commune with but she brushes me off.

🤷

Oh ye of little faith!

I want to apologize publically for this comment. It was partially tounge-in-cheek and as such, showed a lack of sensitivity to the medium through which we communicate. I should not have questioned the faith of another, either in gest or in reality. God knows my lack of faith and it was plain wrong for me.

A very established and very well respected member of this website actually took me to taks for the comment and I was obstinanat in the face of his rebuke as well.

I’ve had a lack of self control lately and believe God has withdrawn a little to show my how much I really need him. I’ll be taking this comment, along with a few other things to the confessional as soon as possible.

I hope you can forgive me.

Do any of you guys burn korans too? The koran is certainly more anti catholic than a new age book.

TimothH,

Apology accepted and if I thought it needed forgiving I certainly would. I was not offended at all and didn’t take it as a question of my faith. I took it as the tongue in cheek comment I truly believe you intended it to be. No worries. Besides, it’s obvious I needed reminding of what Holy Water is. Thanks.

Render the book inoperable, just like if you found a loaded gun in the woods.

Burn it quietly.

I dont. I am a free speech purist. And personally, for readability, the Koran is more readable than say… the Book Of Mormon. I just find the New Age beliefs a hoge podge of do it yourselfism, That has no set rules, and goes off in any direction. More power to those who like this type of reading material. I read some pretty off the wall stuff myself. I dont agree with half of what I read, but I do find it certain topics interesting. It seems the new age, is eastern mysticism with an american flair. As such its dull. Just my opinion. if ya like it, read it. 🙂 You are right though. New age material is less angry than other writings. Peace 👍

That is exactly what it is and that is why I think it has some merit. New Age books are mostly based on buddhist and hindu principles that actually work and help people become happier and have better lives. But we HAVE TO BURN IT!!!

Burning quietly - that is quietly doesn’t offend and it prevents harm.

Most people don’t realize that burning the Koran publicly isn’t the same as burning the Bible.

To a Muslim, burning the Koran is closer - in fact very close - to desecrating the Eucharist. They believe the Koran is physically the Word of God.
