What to say if somebody says to me..."How did the kangaroos and koalas get to Australia? "

Exotic mammals hitched rides on rafts to colonise Madagascar

The animated movie Madagascar - which featured a group of zoo animals hitching a boat ride to the African island - was not so far- fetched after all.

A new study today claims the island’s exotic wild mammals are descended from sea-faring ancestors who sailed from mainland Africa on natural rafts 50 million years ago.

Scientists say the prevailing currents at the time would have made the 300 mile trip not only possible, but relatively fast too.
Madagascar is home to an extraordinary collection of animals found nowhere else in the world. They include fossas - which resemble a cross between cats and dogs, 70 types of lemurs, flying foxes and narrow striped mongooses.

But scientists have long been puzzled how the ancestors of these animals got to Madagascar.

Isn’t this thread about Australia? Australia is much further away from Africa than Madagascar. Here’s a list of how far Australia is from some major cities in the world (it was the best I could find in the short time period I have right now):

All distances are to Sydney

London: 10,562 miles (16997 km)
Los Angeles: 7,487 miles (12049 km)
New York: 9,935 miles (15989 km)
Tokyo: 4,845 miles (7798 km)
Moscow: 9,005 miles (14492 km)
Johannesburg: 6,884 miles (11078 km)
Singapore: 3,925 miles (6316 km)

clickforaustralia.com/AustralianFacts.htm

These are all much greater than 300 miles. My impression is that the ancestors of modern kangaroos and koalas were present when the land masses were either one or very close together. As the land masses moved apart Australia became isolated and the animals there developed into their modern forms or else remained the same, depending on changing environments (geographical, predation, humans influencing the environment, etc.)

This is just an initial impression. Travelling on natural rafts could certainly be used for short trips and animals could jump from one place to another using this method until the distances became too great.

What people need to do is stop worshipping their brains and the brains of others and actually be obedient to Church teaching.

Infallibility has a bearing on science. The Church has infallibly declared the universe if of a finite age.

Hi Ed,

I posted a respected Catholic site which told you all about Mgr, Georges Lemaitre and his discovery of the Big Bang. That was not an atheist discovery, they fought it tooth and nail. The reason for that was that it showed the universe had a beginning. It is this fact that troubles atheists most, they still haven’t found a way round it. You should embrace true science, it comes from God. Or you can be like the Southern Baptists and restrict your brain to the level of stone aged man. By that I mean that if a stone age man writes down what he understands, it will be primitive, true, but primitive.

I understand you 100%, believe me. I know exactly what you refuse to do but please don’t stand in front of another poster and ask me why I don’t respond to what he wrote. The original poster is welcome to contact me directly.

God bless,
Ed
Oh, I forgot to say you have to beware of wishful thinking on behalf of scientists such as the latest from Pro Stephen Hawking. I looked at your website and the first thing I noticed was a reference to Prof. Sir Fred Hoyle, he was the man who poo pooed the big bang as it caused the problem he could not face, that the universe had a beginning. He was in favour of a steady state universe which therefore did not require God. Beware atheist scientists.

No one I know worships his own head or anybody else’s.

In any case, we are to USE our heads as much as possible. That is what we are designed to do; our head is what we know with, and knowing is one of our most Godly propensities.

And BTW, “a finite age” is FULLY compatible with evolution.

ICXC NIKA
I’ve been using my head to tell people there are things only God can do, and which science can say nothing about.

There is a temporary ban on evolution.

God bless,
Ed

I rarely see what I consider true science mentioned here. I don’t need to embrace the version of science commonly discussed here. It is filled with a poisonous, anti-God ideology.

Ed,

What on earth is the matter with you, I posted a respected Catholic site reporting on the discoveries of the head of science at the Vatican, The Rev Monsignor Georges Lemaitre, the Pope’s advisor. Why would you be frightened to look at that? If what he discovered is not in accordance with what you think it should be, you have a duty, write to the Pope and tell him your theory. You will probably be able to hear him laughing from where you are.

Oh c’mon!! Please!! This is absolutely not true!! CAF has many Catholic scientists, including me, that love God and serve Him.

Would you please give a few examples of the “poisonous, anti-God ideology” that scientists on CAF are promoting? Is this what you believe I am promoting?

“frightened”? Typical ideological commentary.

I cannot tell between the scientists and nonscientists who post here unless they identify themselves. The underlying topic being referred to - evolution - is under a temporary ban.

Then this thread should never have been started or allowed to continue. A ban on discussion of evolution means that a possible answer to the question stated in the OP cannot be given.

BTW, a ban on discussing evolution is in effect in the Apologetics forum. I’m not sure about the other forums but I believe it can be discussed in the Back Fence.

I didn’t ask about evolution; I asked about science. I asked for examples of the type of science and scientists you complained about. I can only assume at this point that you specifically mean that scientists who study evolution are promoting “poisonous, anti-God ideology,” even if they are Catholic or non-Catholic Christian, or just believe in God.

You should be aware that letters and audiences with the Pope on ID have been done.

Pope prepares to embrace theory of intelligent design

Creationists, Intelligent Design Advocates Blast Vatican for Not Inviting Them to Evolution Conference

…The Discovery Institute’s president, Bruce Chapman, said he wasn’t surprised intelligent design was kept out.
But in an e-mail, he said the conference didn’t speak for the Vatican as a whole, where he said evolution and intelligent design "remain in serious and fruitful dialogue."
Indeed, some influential cardinals have indicated they support intelligent design, including Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn of Vienna, a close collaborator of Pope Benedict XVI.

We’re not allowed to discuss evolution on this forum. Knock it off or you’ll be sent to bed without your supper!!

Has it occurred to you that evolution is extremely intelligent design. It shows signs of knowing exactly where creation was going right from the moment of the big bang. These psuedo intellectual names carrying implied meaning suggesting that evolution didn’t happen are simply people not being willing to examine reality and research into the past. Trying to simplify God’s creation and bring it down to man’s understanding is an insult to the supreme intelligence of God. Posing things like the eye is too complex to have formed by itself is nonsense, we all know flowers will turn towards the sun. So they are light sensitive, and over tens of millions of years these few cells gradually improve and eventually become eyes.

You can quote all the soft words spoken by the Vatican to avoid telling those who believe in creationism and “Intelligent Design”, which isn’t really intelligent design, but creationism in disguise but it proves only that the Vatican is diplomatic.

We’re not allowed to discuss it but I have to give the following comment after reading your post:

HOOAH!!! 👍👍

Now tell us about the Patypus! 😃
Oh John, John, John, has falling off that horse injured your head more than the doctors thought? Someone who lives in Australia should at least know how to spell “platypus.”

Oh dear. How disappointing!!

😃

Now tell us about the Patypus! 😃
The fact that a creature looks funny to US does not mean that it is not admirably designed for the task of staying alive and propagating genetically in its environment. “Funny” is a purely human construct.
