What truths must you hold to be considered a Protestant?

On the point of this thread, the biggest issue for all Lutherans in America, however, is not politics (though that is a big one), but the unfortunate influence of reformed and American evangelicalism, which I think has diluted Lutheranism, to one degree or another, in all synods.

Very true, Jon. There are many parishes within the confessional synods that Luther, Chemnitz, and Gerhard would recognize as Lutheran. But Synods? Not so much.

Then again, to be fair to Reformed Christians… most Reformed churches have adopted pietism, American revivalism and evangelicalism, too. Calvin wouldn’t recognize most of their churches, either. Remembering that Calvin argued for weekly communion and the use of the liturgy (without the bells and whistles).

And, therefore, we get a post like peary’s. Because even our synods portray American protestantism, instead of confessional Lutheranism. No wonder there is the impression that all protestants are the same.
