**Well, after over 9 years in our home with only a Crucifix on the wall:o, I finally purchased some nice wall art. They are white plaques and I arranged them in a group. There is the Nativity, Pieta, Last Supper, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and a Crucifix. They are on a wall by our dining table. There is space enough above them for me to put something else… I was thinking of a bible verse or quote that encompasses both the plaques and the fact that we eat there. Any ideas???

I know I can count on you guys!

(oh, and not too long as I’ll be hand painting it, lol)

Neither is a verse, but one that I have often seen (okay, mostly growing up in my own home, but other places too 😛 ):
Christ is the Head of this House,
The Unseen Guest at every meal,
The Unseen Listener to every conversation.

Or, there is the unofficial motto of every seminary refectory:
Fidem scit

It means “He knows the Faith” (but sound it out in Ecclesiastical Latin to understand why it is appropriate to the refectory). 😛

For a verse, Joshua 24:15b is always good:
As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I’d love something in Latin (would be good to have to translate for guests)

Keep 'em coming!!!

What is the Latin form of “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again”?**

Doesn’t have to be a bible quote…a quote from a Saint would be great too. Hubby really likes St.Thomas Aquinas

Ad Majorum Dei Glorium
For the greater glory of God

The things that we love tell us what we are.
Saint Thomas Aquinas

Here’s one from Mass that is simple and beautiful (even if it doesn’t make it onto a wall, :))

“Sursum corda. Habemus ad Dominum.”
Lift up your hearts. We have lifted them up to the Lord.

I rather like St Paul - 1 Cor 10:17 “For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.”

or maybe “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till he come.” (1 Cor 11:26)

What is the Latin form of “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again”?
Latin:
Mortem tua annuntiàmus, Dòmine,
et tuam resurrectiònem confitèmur,
donec vènias.
This is not a direct translation, but from what I have read, it is the Latin phrase where **“Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again” **comes from. Other languages translate it in a way that sounds more like the Latin one.

My favorite verse: Psalm 27:1 - The Lord is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear?

Yes. I thought I’d heard the poor English would be mysteriously retained* in the coming translation, but accroding to the grey book, it will become the more accurate:
We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.
(* Perhaps it is only the US which has asked to keep it?
Or I could be completely mistaken)

Well then don’t forget that any bible verse you like can be looked up in Latin. For instance the one I gave above is:
ego autem et domus mea serviemus Domino.

I really want to have this quote from St. Teresa of Avila calligraphed at some point. It is so beautiful.

Nada te turbe,
nada te espante,
todo se pasa;
Dios no se muda.
La paciencia
todo lo alcanza;
Quien a Dios tiene,
nada le falta;
Solo Dios basta.

English translation:
Let nothing disturb you,
Nothing frighten you,
All things are passing.
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing.
God is enough.

For man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Mt. 4: 4

Here is a latin phrase that I like and I think it could be appropriate:

“Christus Vincit! Christus Regnat! Christus Imperat!”

God bless

Christ Victorious, Christ Reigns, Christ Rules

Victorious could also be translated as wins or conquers.

Malia, I have the Vulgate in Latin, so if you name me a verse, I can look it up for you.

Blessings,

Ruthie
