What was Jesus like after the resurrection?

I am really curious as to why the disciples sometimes recognize him and sometimes not.

Did his appearance change once he was resurrected? Did it change over the course of his time on Earth before he ascended?

It just seems strange.

We recognize our Risen, glorified Lord when He reveals Himself to us. Those who had spent three years in His presence were unable to recognize Him until: He called Mary’s name at the tomb, when He appeared in the upper room blessing them with “Peace”, when He broke the Bread in Emmaus.

Only Peter, James and John had seen His resurrected glory at the transfiguration - ahead of time, since our Lord is outside of time. Something about Him - everything about Him is radically changed so that we recognize when He calls our names.

Jesus’ resurrected body was a glorified one, the same type we will have at our own resurrection on the last day. This glorified body is also known as a spiritual body. This does not mean it was not the same body or that Jesus was purely a ghost, but it was now of a supernatural state. It’s hard to explain.

I am guessing the most likely explanation was that because of this supernatural state, natural eyes could not perceive the Person, unless a supernatural intervention were provided, i.e. their “eyes were opened”. A special revelation is needed.

Preternatural vs supernatural for it is still a created body.

Most perfectly perfected by its form (subtlety), spirit-like but still flesh and bones.
  • Luke 24:39, “A spirit hath not flesh and bones as you see Me to have,”
  • 1 Corinthians 15:44: “It is sown a corruptible body, it shall rise a spiritual,”

Why does no one recognise the risen Jesus Sacred Scripture
Probably a stupid question but: Why does no one recognise Jesus after the ressurection? Does He literally not look like He did before He was crucified? Mary of Magdala thought He was the gardener. The two disciples on the road to Emmaus didn’t recognise Him until He broke bread with them. It also says He appeared under a different form at this point whatever that means. Then at the Sea of Tiberias no one recognises Him until James (he is the only disciple who didn’t abandon Jesus at the cruc…
