Jude picked me!

Daughter will have Margaret, after St Margaret of Scotland

This was 40 years ago (or more) for me, I picked Ann not sure what my reasoning was. When my child was going through confirmation in 7th grade and needed to decide on a saint name, I encouraged her to read about several and see who “spoke” to her. She finally decided on St. Francis of Assisi, because of his history and also because her beloved, and deceased grandfather was named Francis. And, yes females can chose male confirmation names!
Indeed - mine is St Paul, For an adult convert who had come from a strongly religious background that was rather anti-Catholic, it just seemed a very natural choice.

It’s where we get ‘Paula’ 🙂 My mom and one aunt had feminized names of male saints, so do I.

St. Philip Neri

When I read about his life, he sounded like he’d fit right in with modern times. I could see him being a frequent guest on CA for that matter. 🙂

I chose Gertrude, for Saint Gertrude the Great, who was a contemplative. She’s the only female saint to have the title “Great” after her name. Our Lord gave her a prayer to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory and promised it would release 1,000 souls each time it is said.

Saint Camillus for me, though I think my name gives that away, lol.
I first got interested because he was so tall, but I came to really relate to him in so many ways. When choosing my confirmation saint, I was looking for someone that felt, well, more down to earth you could say. Some saints just felt too… what’s the word to put it? Distant? Perfect? I dunno, but that’s the gist of it. Saint Camillus is an amazing example of how a great sinner can become a great saint with God’s graces. 😃

Also thanks to this thread for reminding me to speak to him more. I’ve been a bit silent on my part of the conversation as of late, whoops!

I was confirmed as an adult and wasn’t given an option to choose a saint. Lately I’ve been reading up on saints and most recently St. Faustina and really enjoy reading about her.

My name is Mary Magdalene but I wasn’t named after the saint. I was named after both my grandmothers. My maternal grandmother’s name was Mary and my paternal grandmother’s name was Magdalene.

St. Bridget of Sweden.
I was having a hard time with my Lutheran / Northern European heritage, and choosing her helped me to remember that all of Europe had been Catholic for a long time. She is also one of the six patron saints of Europe, and the mother of another saint. She was a famous mystic, and founded the Brigittine Order.

I picked Mary. The Virgin Mary. I thought you couldn’t but they said you could.

She has helped me and talked to me via locution which is cool. And I only felt Jesus presence once when I was going to do something bad he stopped me sort of 😦

Other than that, I am glad that I picked her.
Matryr Saint George of Lydda.

My Confirmation name is Theresa. (Or Teresa, I don’t remember how I spelled it).

Was it Teresa of Liseux? or Ma Teresa?

I like both. Both are associate with the act of Mercy and missionary work. 👍

Ephrem-Mary was my confirmation name. I’m not entirely sure why I chose St Ephrem.

Mine is St John (the evangelist), I was in primary school at the time and didn’t give It much thought, but I’m happy with it 🙂

I wanted my mothers first name. She spelled it both ways, but I think Theresa is on her birth certificate.

My Patron Saint is Theresa of Liseux, which was also my moms Patron Saint.

I choose St Joseph, as he was Jesus’s foster father (seemed like a good reason to me as a 14 year old), but to be honest I couldn’t be happier that I chose him now as he is the patron saint of fathers & workers (I’m now a father of 2 & my wife is a stay at home mom).
He is my patron saint and has helped me through many times.

Honorable mention: another saint that has never failed to intercede for me & helped me and my family through some very tough times is St Martha (if I had to choose again right now I would struggle between choosing St Joseph or St Martha), as an aside, my wife and I have decided that if we were to have another daughter, we would name her Martha.

Sorry for the rant 🤷

God bless.
