What will happen in 2012?
I plan on buying a new car.
I plan on buying a new car.
I was pastoring a Baptist Church when all the Y2K panic started. Books in the local āFamily Bookstoresā were selling like hotcakes, evangelists were talking about it. Guys were on TV selling tapes, books, dried food, all kinds of survival equiptment. The jws have been setting dates for Armageddon since they were created by Russell in the 19th century. Their last date in 1975 that came and went cost them many followers as well as their āMillions Living Will Never Dieā poorly thought out hypothesis that persons above the age of 9 years in 1914 would live to see āthe endā. Both debunked by time itself.
Now, in the evenings, I see a John Hagee on TV going on and on about some skewed claptrap involving the book of Revelation, Israel, maps and a chalkboard and how, according to his reasoning, we are on the edge of Armageddon.
These āchicken littlesā have been around for years and years.
As JackVK pointed out, even Jesus Himself deflected the question of when by saying only The Father knows. That should be enough for us to not bother thinking of it and concentrate instead on being the best persons that we can be in the time of now.
Exactly. I am a 56 year-old IT professional, and I recall the non-event that was Y2K. All the hype, the government hysteria and the months of preparation and reporting and proving that we were compliant and the fear that the world was going to implode and blah blah blahā¦The same thing that happened at Y2K
This is such a bombshell conversationMediums, the famous Nostradamus and the Aztecs - the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012.
Why and what will really happen in December 2012? They all believe life will change as we know it.
I was previously āintoā New Age things and it is their belief that the world wonāt really end but that Spiritually we will be evolving. That if we are not ready for this some may have difficulties. I have to say, it was always very vague
What are the opinions out there, is it not worth a second thought, or maybe Nostradamus is right and it will be the end for us all?
if it is on the history channel it is neither science nor historyThis is such a bombshell conversationThere is science behind the talk, and I was looking for a video of a computer model of what is supposed to happen, these are the best I came up with:

āMonsterquestā is pretty good.if it is on the history channel it is neither science nor history
there is NO science behind the talk, there is entertainment and selling products behind the schtick.
Hey! The History Channel has lots of good shows! American Pickers, Gangland, Modern Marvelsā¦all good shows.
Thereās a computer program that lets people see where the stars and planets will be on a specific day so they can get out their telescopes and know when and where to look for whatever constellations or comets they want to see. That same program uses pictures from Hubble to show where our solar system is within the Milky Way at a given date. That is science. And thatās how astronomers came to the conclusion that there will be some big āalignmentā. There is no reason to believe that anything will come of it, though. Only God will know, so all these ācluesā are bologna. Itās just going to be another day floating around in spaceā¦a few more astronomy-buffs will be out on their rooftops, though. So maybe there will be a sudden jump in the roof-repair business, but certainly not the end of the world.![]()

You mean that the world is going to end 6 years before I can finish seminary? Thatās gonna be frustrating. Here I was, looking forward to ordination.
