What will happen in 2012?

The jws have been setting dates for Armageddon since they were created by Russell in the 19th century. Their last date in 1975 that came and went cost them many followers as well as their ā€œMillions Living Will Never Dieā€ poorly thought out hypothesis that persons above the age of 9 years in 1914 would live to see ā€œthe endā€. Both debunked by time itself.
Now, in the evenings, I see a John Hagee on TV going on and on about some skewed claptrap involving the book of Revelation, Israel, maps and a chalkboard and how, according to his reasoning, we are on the edge of Armageddon.
These ā€œchicken littlesā€ have been around for years and years.
As JackVK pointed out, even Jesus Himself deflected the question of when by saying only The Father knows. That should be enough for us to not bother thinking of it and concentrate instead on being the best persons that we can be in the time of now.

I was pastoring a Baptist Church when all the Y2K panic started. Books in the local ā€˜Family Bookstores’ were selling like hotcakes, evangelists were talking about it. Guys were on TV selling tapes, books, dried food, all kinds of survival equiptment.
Y2K came and went, no Armageddon.
Um…did all those huckers give any of the money they accumulated back when nothing happened? Nope.
There is always big money to be made in the end of the world.

Friend, humanity has survived the Y2K, mad cow, SARS, the H1N1, and if I can finish my essay on Marxist views on freedom, than we can survive 2012

It seems to me the end of civilization as we knew it came in 2009 when Obama finished taking the oath of office. I imagine he will find a slick way to get re-elected on some unfulfillable promises again in 2012. Immediately thereafter, interest rates will soar because of all the wild spending between his taking office in 2009 and 2012, and we’ll have a recession that will make this one look like a one-day dip in the DOW.

Still (as my grandfather taught me, having lived through the Depression) some people will still have money. It is my intention to sell those people the kinds of products and services they like and can afford, just as he did then. I’m working on it right now.

Not meaning to be a jerk, here, and I hope something changes and it doesn’t happen that way, but sometimes the handwriting on the wall is in BIG CAPITAL LETTERS.

a brief history of the apocolypse…go ahead…anyone who thinks the world is ending in 2012…tell me why this is any differant than the 3000+ times listed there

What will happen in 2012? Same thing that happens every other year - sinners will still sin, the righteous will still seek after God, and the Lord will grant us the grace and courage to endure in this fallen world!

I haven’t the foggiest idea of what will happen in 2012.

Not a clue.

I can’t see the future, after all.

Unless Our Blessed Lord returns, life will continue as is. God willing, only better. Break out your rosaries,šŸ™‚

I am hoping our President will be planning his retirement library for 2013.

You mean that the world is going to end 6 years before I can finish seminary? That’s gonna be frustrating. Here I was, looking forward to ordination.

The same thing that happened at Y2K
Exactly. I am a 56 year-old IT professional, and I recall the non-event that was Y2K. All the hype, the government hysteria and the months of preparation and reporting and proving that we were compliant and the fear that the world was going to implode and blah blah blah…

2012 is the same, except that there are many young people who are too young to remember the foolishness of Y2K. Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it…

At least at Y2K there was a legitimate technological reason for concern (though nearly everyone had addressed the concern 5 years previous). This 2012 balony has no basis in fact at all.

Mediums, the famous Nostradamus and the Aztecs - the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012.
Why and what will really happen in December 2012? They all believe life will change as we know it.

I was previously ā€˜into’ New Age things and it is their belief that the world won’t really end but that Spiritually we will be evolving. That if we are not ready for this some may have difficulties. I have to say, it was always very vague 🤷

What are the opinions out there, is it not worth a second thought, or maybe Nostradamus is right and it will be the end for us all?
This is such a bombshell conversation šŸ™‚ There is science behind the talk, and I was looking for a video of a computer model of what is supposed to happen, these are the best I came up with:

Galactic Alignment/Polar Shift (History Channel)

Mayan Explaination (narrative of present-day Mayan)

These things are all interesting, but like everyone else said, it’s overdone for entertainment. When it really comes down to it, we’ve been told that we cannot possibly know so I’m not going to sweat it šŸ™‚

if it is on the history channel it is neither science nor history

there is NO science behind the talk, there is entertainment and selling products behind the schtick.

ā€œMonsterquestā€ is pretty good. 😃

Hey! The History Channel has lots of good shows! American Pickers, Gangland, Modern Marvels…all good shows. šŸ˜›

There’s a computer program that lets people see where the stars and planets will be on a specific day so they can get out their telescopes and know when and where to look for whatever constellations or comets they want to see. That same program uses pictures from Hubble to show where our solar system is within the Milky Way at a given date. That is science. And that’s how astronomers came to the conclusion that there will be some big ā€œalignmentā€. There is no reason to believe that anything will come of it, though. Only God will know, so all these ā€œcluesā€ are bologna. It’s just going to be another day floating around in space…a few more astrology-buffs will be out on their rooftops, though. So maybe there will be a sudden jump in the roof-repair business, but certainly not the end of the world.

Most recent I viewed was on the History Channel, included the understanding of Catholic, Islam, Hopi Indians and Nostradamous in relation to the war of good and evil and its climax. A loose weave of very different beliefs with satan being the key factor. Nostradamous Effect I believe it was titled.

It was climatic and would have been interesting if there wasn’t a similar take on all this weekly.

I feel asleep:shrug: But I didn’t see anything on the News today? So I contend we’ll be OK for another minute or two? šŸ™‚

Yet I do dare say, we appear to be moving towards chaos instead of the opposite direction. If experience is the best teacher, we must have slept during that period.

All is hogwash and all we can do is speculate. Remember:Neither the time nor the hour is known to the Saints and Angels. Neither is it known to the Son". It will come as a thief in the night
