What will happen in 2012?

I started this thread and just wanted to thank you all so much for giving your time to reply.

I found the comments interesting, and the links too, and some comments made me laugh, I just love all the Catholic’s out there with a sense of humour.

You have all put my mind at ease a lot about the year 2012, and as I have now chosen to follow Christ again, I know now that I simply must trust in him. My life with go on regardless, body or soul, so that’s pretty cool!

The Mayans are gone and they didn’t believe in God. They did awful things to their people and others. They were pretty good at looking at stars, maybe that is why God needed them around for a short time to get us going into the knowledge of stars, I don’t know. But, I don’t think they had any special knowledge to reveal to us about the end of times, at least they never stated it.

We don’t know what’s going to happen in 2012. It’s useless speculating about anything because we don’t know the future.

I can’t wait for 12/21/12, though, I’m going to camp out on my roof and watch the “world end” and see people go nuts in the streets.

I’ll tell you what’ll happen in 12/21/12: Lame duck period after the US presidential election. Aside from that, IDK.

Personally, I don’t think a calendar resetting is a big deal; it happens every year.

American Idol hopefully will finally get canceled
Dancing with the Stars hopefully will be gone
The Yankees, sadly, will still be in the World Series

My son’s birthday falls on Dec.20, 2012 and my daughter in law’s birthday falls on Dec.22, 2012 (with the end of the world happening on the 21st ), so we will celebrate both of their birthdays on Dec.20th so my daughter in law won’t get short changed on her presents . But my wife and I will not have to buy them any Christmas presents.

Actually, very few of the conversations on the non-Catholic religions forum get all involved in politics. In my case, at least, that would be counter-productive. Y’see, most of the people here who really see me as a non-Christian cult member would have to actually AGREE with me on my politics, and that would be uncomfortable.

The problem is, 2012 is a pretty big year, politically, for US citizens. I mean, THIS year (well, in about three weeks…) is a big one, but 2012 is bigger, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Mayans, Egyptians or anything else. It is the year we either will, or will not, have a Democrat in the White House.

Given the problems we have, that’s really bigger than any fantasizing about whether something apocalyptic is going to happen because the Mayans couldn’t count past 2012.

What is that scripture, again…the one that says that no man will know the day or the hour when Christ will come again? Even HE doesn’t know?

…and if He does not, it’s a little…hubristic? For us to start getting all fortune tellery about it.

As for me, I’ll just…keep working on my year’s supply, attend Tea Parties, and vote libertarian.

REally confuse people.

It’s amazing that only the Mayans had a calendar. How about the Aztecs, Incas, Toltecs, and all the others. I’m sure they all had some sort of system and I’m also sure that it didn’t stop or end at 2012. Anyway, I’d rather listen to and believe God. Too many people and organizations, down through the ages, have prophesied and set dates for the end times and the end of the world and all have proven false. Let’s stop all this baloney.

A dozen years will have passed since the last big “end of the world” date of 2000. Nothing more than that is likely to happen… at least nothing based upon the date itself. It’s just another day in God’s creation. It’s just as likely to be the last as any other between today and the Day.

Don’t concern yourself with it. It’s nothing you have any control over.

hi angel eyes. i dont know about 2012, but on 2013, if im still alive, i plan to pop a top, and celebrate yet another failed doom and gloom prediction… nuclear winter, acid rain, ice age, ozone hole, global warming, global cooling, y2k etc. etc. ive been around for awhile. and this is just one more scenario to get people to “buy my book!” lol! no worries join me for a drink on january first 2013. that is if your 21 or over… Peace to you and yours.

I’m expecting a lot of trouble generally. But that’s based on other things, not the Mayan Calendar, Nostradamus (which I don’t care for), and certainly not New Age stuff. That said, i do remember my old pastor making a passing reference to the Mayan Calendar. He certainly was not into anything that even had a faint odour of New Age, but while he didn’t specifically say so, i think he felt they were onto something.

I am intrigued by the following prophecy by the 4th century monk named St. Nilus. It was astonishlingly accurate. Obviously the anti-Christ didn’t come in the mid 1900’s but we had two major wars, and there were the Nazis and Communists. These days we abort millions. And there are his predictions about flying and submarine travel. And he lived in an age almost devoid of machinery.

If you consider the warnings at Akita for example, I get the impression that something is going on.

“St. Nilus was one of the many disciples and fervent defenders of St. John Chrysostom. He was an officer at the Court of Constantinople, married, with two sons.
