I realise that christmas dinners differ from family to family, culture to culture and country, so i thought it would be fun to share what we will be eating for christmas dinner!

How many courses will your meal be and what are you having for each course?

What side dishes and dessert will you have?

Merry christmas everybody

I have to preface my comments with a few points:

  1. *]We have 7 different nationalities in our family, but most of our ancestors have been in the US since the 1600’s – we just consider ourselves Americans, so not a lot of ‘ethnic’ traditions 😉
*]We do not have a lot of extended family
*]Both my parents and dh parents are deceased
    *]I do not enjoy cooking
*]We attend Mass on Christmas Eve

With that said, we have an easy to prepare breakfast…this year we are trying a crock pot recipe !
The rest of the day is spent enjoying our presents, playing games and munching on various finger foods:

    1. *]Taco salad dip (the cream cheese & taco mix type)
*]beans & rice topped with cheese in those little scoop Tostitos
      *]veggie tray
      *]chicken salad on Triscuits
      *]cheese and crackers
      *]COOKIES!

We don’t usually actually sit down for ‘dinner’, but I am thinking that I might make a simple soup (pasta e fagioli) in the crock pot for dinner if anyone is still hungry by that time.

However…since it’s my daughter’s birthday we will be having cocoa chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for dessert! 🍰

My husband told a number of his co-workers about what we do and they said their wives would never go for it…they all came back the next day and said they wives thought it sounded great!:dancing:

To many it may not sound like much of a Christmas, but since I don’t like to cook, it’s just ‘us’ and my sister (maybe), and these are everyone’s favorite ‘snack foods’…everyone is happy this way!👍

      Merry Christmas to everyone!

H(name removed by moderator)forlife, it sounds GREAT to me!

After many years of fixing the traditional Christmas meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, etc. I realized that as simple as that meal might appear, it actually is rather difficult to pull off by oneself - everything has to be ready at the same time, and unless you’ve got double ovens and a large stove, it’s not easy to keep everything hot and stirred. I love turkey but the family is “meh” about it, so I’m not doing it this year.

We’re having roast beef, with a ground-pepper coating.

Roast Beef with Red Pepper Basil Butter

It’s easy, and delicious!

Mashed potatoes with cheese, green peas, a tossed salad, and some red wine.

Gluten-free biscuits. (Whole meal is GF because sons are both on the diet.)

Dessert will be a pie for my husband (pecan, not GF) and brownies for the boys (GF). Vanilla ice cream and heavy cream to pour on the dessert. Yes, both.

It’s just us 4, this year. We were going to be up at my stepmom’s but she told us not to come after all. 😦

Wow! Both of those sound tasty!

Im having turkey, potatoes, assorted veg, stuffing, gravy,
Everyone knows what everyone has for Christmas dinner! As above, but you should have emphasised Brussel Sprouts. For afters…Christmas Pudding and Custard.

starters…Texas caviar, and shrimp for dipping

Salad…oranges, cranberries, kiwi, and star fruit on lettuce with orange-honey dressing

Entree…crown roast of pork with sausage dressing, cheesy potatoes, applesause, green beans.

Desserts…cheese cake with raspberries and whipped cream, Christmas cookies, assorted pastries

Cool idea for a thread!!

I cook on Christmas Eve for my side of the family. Usually ham or turkey, but this year I changed it up a bit:

Lasagna
Salad
Bread
Sausage and Meatballs
Cheesecake for dessert

My mil will for Christmas Day:

Pot roast
Mashed potatoes
(I’m not sure what else)

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Sausage
Mac and Cheese
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes

Should be yummylicious.

kung pao triple delight, shrimp spring roll, and fried dumplings :christmastree1:

We are mainlanders (Idaho) opting for something different, so we are having a Shrimp Boil (red potatoes, onions, corn on the cob, smoked sausage and shrimp). Sounded like a great idea when I was planning–hadn’t really taken into account that my SIL and her family are here from Seattle! I think my frozen Costco shrimp won’t really compare with what they are used to, but we’ll enjoy it nonetheless. 😉

Yummy! What kind of boil are you using?

Right now i’ve got the oven preheating for some sugar cookies, and later i’m gonna do a casserole and maybe some latkes, still not sure on that one. Just got a pumpkin pie from the store earlier today, and we’re ready for tonight and tomorrow. 🙂

I’m so excited this year…we’re having our first big Christmas dinner.

We’ve got a table set for 8 and we’re cooking our first big meal.

Rib Roast
Ham
Mashed potatoes
Boston Baked Beans (home made in the crock pot)
Green Bean casserole
Tossed salad
Dinner rolls

And this awesome Trifle that everyone on my side of the family can make for desert.

Heading out the door for Mass in about an hour then coming back to finish the gift wrapping and get the beans started.

I can’t wait for tomorrow! 😃
