What Will You Eat For Christmas Dinner?

Well, for us it is already late in the afternoon of Christmas Day, and those of us able to eat managed crackers and toast, with the rest having protein shakes. 😊 We got hit with Norovirus on the evening of the 23rd, and we are still slowly recovering.

We hope to have a delayed Christmas dinner on the 27th. Assuming we pull it off, it should be ham, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, homemade honey-oatmeal bread, black forest pie, pumpkin pie, and caramel apple oat bars.

aw… its terrible to be sick during the holidays, and when it affects multiple family members, its even worse. 😦

I hope everyone recovers soon, and that your delayed feast is all the more enjoyable!

Me, I am having

Mongolian Beef
Rice
Diet soda :o

We’re having dinner at my in-laws’ house, so it’ll be burritos and tamales for dinner this year.

Roast leg of pork

Russian salad (potatoes, carrots, boiled egg and gherkins chopped up and mixed with a Dijon-mayo dressing - tastes a lot better than it sounds)

Walnut strudel

Pink champagne for my mother - her favourite holiday tipple

Appetizer: Tiny toasts with a bit of cream cheese and smoked salmon, with a glass of Brut champagne

First course:
Spinach salad with sweet onions caramelized in agave nectar and bacon cracklings, served with a glass of merlot

Entree (served with more merlot):
Slices from a 3 pound Chateaubriand beef roast (first seared on the stove, then roasted to medium rare)
Creamy yellow mashed potatoes (I’m dividing them into thirds, then flavoring them with: grated black truffle cheese, bacon and green onion, and garlic-butter-parsley),
Steamed asparagus and baby carrots, both brushed with garlic browned in olive oil

Dessert:
Dark chocolate/heavy cream fondue, served with strawberries, bananas, Comice pears, and butter croissants, served with a teeny glass of Irish whiskey or French calvados.

My hubby and I eat healthy most of the year, but on special occasions like Christmas we indulge all of our gourmet foodie notions. :D:D:D

We don’t have courses. We simply cook a big feast that we can’t finish in one sitting and slowly eat it across Christmas day. 😛

With that said, my family decided to fill most of our Christmas dinner menu with:

Pork BBQ
Tuna BBQ
Fried noodles with chinese ham
A box of assorted Krispy Kreme donuts
Fruit salad
Macaroni salad

  • Starter: trio of scrambled eggs (it sounds much better in French :o)—white truffle, foie gras, and asparagus with Avruga
  • Main course: rabbit braised in Christmas beer, bundles of green beans wrapped in bacon, scalloped potatoes with Maroilles cheese
  • Dessert: chocolate buttercream bûche de Noël
  • Beverages: water, coffee (with dessert), and lots of Belgian beer
The only thing I’m cooking is the main course, which is a traditional choice for Christmas in the region of France where I live. The starter and dessert came from a caterer that I discovered quite by accident while attending Mass at a nearby parish (not my own).
I don’t know what came over me, but knowing my pastor would be alone this evening I offered to bring him a portion of our meal. He graciously accepted. (I would have invited him over but my home is a disaster right now. 😊) Fr. B is a native of this region, and I have never attempted the recipe I chose for our Christmas dinner. Oh dear 😛 Well, better get started!

Sorry to hear that 😦 Praying for all of you today!

From my childhood I remember (and miss) those Filipino Christmas spreads! If I were expecting more than two or three for Christmas and the group wouldn’t include my MIL (long story), I might give such a feast a whirl.

Would you like to share the Awesome Trifle Recipe? 🙂
Yes…

It’s super, super easy.

Chocolate pudding, heavy cream whipped, crushed oreo cookies, and your favorite cake mix…cubed.

Find a nice trifle dish and assemble with cake on bottom, pudding, whipped and oreo cookie. Layer until done.

Super decadent and super delicious! 😃

Some starters (cold fish from Christmas Eve supper really), pumpkin soup, roast duck with roast potatoes and hot peaches with cranberry. Some salad with vinaigrette.

I feel for you. Two years ago, my entire family got a stomach bug late in the night on Christmas Day; I myself got sick the day before, on Christmas Eve morning. It wasn’t fun, and hopefully you all will recover soon and be able to have a wonderful Christmas dinner.

As for Christmas dinner, my family and I just had it. :o It consisted of mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, turkey, ham, and gravy. Simple, but delicious.

MacDonalds
Wow, McDonald’s finally opened for Christmas, huh? Around here, the fast-food chain called Hardee’s has long been open on Christmas. I had a couple depressing Christmas meals there (though not of my choice.)

I hope you can share a better meal in more pleasant surroundings to make up for today!

Actually yeah, apparently they did open for Christmas this year however I didn’t go today.

Might go tomorrow or sometime soon though, since the McRib came back.

Why did you say you had or were going to eat at McDonald’s then?

:confused::confused:

Christmas dinner is a bit spendy in my house, but simple and easy to make. I roast a whole filet of beef, mash potatoes, pease, and cookies.
Code:
This morning I made DH steak and eggs with the filet, and tonight will make a hash out of the leftovers, and will likely have more for one more meal.

I feel I need to justify buying such an expensive piece of meat. I also think we would spend about as much for a dinner out with the family at say Outback or something. There are seven of us.....but the kids don't eat much.
I over cooked it a bit this time got caught up in other things but it was still good.

I love H(name removed by moderator)FORLIFE’s idea, though my kids might not.

Had a get together with some friends and the menu was

Christmas Ham
Potato Salad
Potatoes au gratin
candied sweet potatoes
Green salad with poppy seed dressing
Shrimp cocktail
Steamed winter vegetables
Crescent rolls with butter

Red Velvet Cake
Chocolate Pecan Pie
Lemon Bars

Yup, tis the season to get chubby (use the melody from Deck the halls) 😃
