Well he meant then that catholic priests are engaged in less sexual misconduct then catholics or non-catholics then? Ok then I go along with that then. Catholic priests are less likey to be engaged in sexual misconduct than your average catholic or non-catholic.
no please read the post before responding! Catholic priests are less likely to be involved in sexual misconduct than Protestant clergy.

No, Catholic Priests are less likely to be engaged in sexual misconduct that Protestant ministers. I don’t think he was involving laity in that comparison.

Gosh no. The laity are their own issues. Why do you think lay is in there? I know, bad joke…

Oh and is this his own personal opinion that protestant ministers are less holy then priests or are there any credible studies that actually back up these claims?

Ask Ralph, but yes, there were studies that indicated a greater number of Protestant ministers were involved in sexual misconduct (the study I was shown dealt with paedophilia but as I do not have the study to hand I will not try to quote numbers) thank their Catholic counterparts.

I would be very curious to see those studies. I assume this study was conducted by a non-catholic just so they weren’t biased in their study.

As would I. I’ll have a look, see if I can dig them out before Ralph.

few? 107 Catholic clegy members were convicted of sex abuse against children. I can’t swallow “few”. Unfortunately I can’t swallow “few” in any one denomination, not even my own.
Lets see…107 Catholic Clergy members were convicted…

AS COMPARED TO 833 PROTESTANT MINISTERS…AND 140 ANGLICAN/EPISCOPALIAN CLERGY. From here: reformation.com/

Aren’t you happy you have “OCD” and persist in obsessively and inanely attempt to attack Catholics…when you and yours live in a “glass house”?

I’ve flung them all over this board at one time or another. The most telling was one done by an Anglican (or Episcopalian, I can’t remember which) that showed that dispite the disparity in numbers, the Catholic ones are reported a lot more often in the media. I have both Catholic and non-Catholic sources, and as a rule, the non-Catholic ones are worse on the non-Catholics.

I’ll give you a few.

usccb.org/nrb/johnjaystudy/ catholic site

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholic_sex_abuse_cases wiki site. I usually don’t like these, but it does have links.

The name to look for is Philip Jenkins. He wrote a couple of books about it. One is Moral Panic and the other is The New Anti-Catholocism. Pedophiles and Priests: Anatomy of a Contemporary Crisis is another book he wrote. He is non-catholic. He is a source on this.

Overall, the numbers, though horrible, are much better. Your child is safer with a priest than any other religious person, and your wife is even safer.

Read it and weep…

reformation.com/

Lets see…whats that about “living in a glass house and throwing boulders”…?

The link above “is not about personal opinions”…

How I left that one out is beyond me.

My personal opinion is always stated as such. Anything else I say is fact 😛

Do you know what a “pirates” favorite letter is?

Its “Arrrrrrrrrrr!”😃

LOL:p (I’d much rather “hammer” them with FACTS than “bovine feces”… 😃

I was wondering what would happen to a priest if he admitted to masturbating and having impure thoughts, worse looking at a dirty magazine? Since it seems to be a need that most men, no matter how they try to overcome, need routinely. I am sure there are a small percentage of priests who are able to not give into their sex drive.Would he be kicked out of the priesthood for admitting this or would his sins be forgiven and he would just try to keep on being a priest by trying his best to remain celibate?
Actually… I think a far more appropriate question is: Do you have “sexually deviant tendencies” and are you obsessed with the subject of “masturbation”?

If this is the case, please PM me your “general geographical location”…the state you reside in is close enough, and I will send you a link to the appropriate State “Psychiatric” Association. Perhaps some psychotherapy and psychotropics can aid you in ridding yourself of these demonic problems.

One of the more ignored parts of this conversation is that of maturity. The more mature, not old, a man is, the more likely he is to be able to control urges. I am 35. I have much more control over myself then I had at 18. Even then, I seemed to be ahead of my peer group. I have never and will never understand why it is acceptable to behave like a bunch of blue-bottomed baboons in heat just because you are male.

Any man who says that he cannot control himself should be checked for an addiction or other issue. If he has none, he needs to grow up and be a MAN not an animal. I mean come on.

As a Catholic, when I read about how many Catholic priests have been involved in abuse of minors (in the US, 4 percent, according to the report of the Bishops’ Commission) it makes me want to cry.

Any man who says that he cannot control himself should be checked for an addiction or other issue. If he has none, he needs to grow up and be a MAN not an animal. I mean come on.
Then that would mean 95% of priests should be checked for addiction or other issues since 95% of priests were found in that study to masturbate on a regular basis. Further 95% of all priests need to grow up and not be animals then.

I find it very disturbing and unChristian to engage in scorecards regarding clergy scandals.

Can’t we all agree that such scandals only hurt the Church (Protestant and Catholic) and not have a sanctimonious attitude of “our clergy are better than yours?”

Clergy, whether they’re Catholic or Protestant, are still human and need as much prayer as the laity. We need to keep them in our prayers because they are on the frontlines spiritually.

I believe the statistic you’re referring to is
Pepe Rodriguez published his book length study of the sexual life of clergy in Spain (La Vida sexual del Clero 1995). He concluded that among practicing priests 95% masturbate; 7% are sexually involved with minors and 26% have “attachments to minors;” 60% have sexual relations, 20% have homosexual relations.
Assuming that study is accurate, that still doesn’t necessarily mean the results they found for Spain would hold in all other places.
