Many people hope that it will eventually become the norm Liturgy again.
Are faithful Catholics really going to leave the Holy Mother Church simply because they don’t like the traditional liturgy that sustained the Latin Church for centuries?
Please remember, we are not necessarily talking about having the most people in the pews, we are talking about having more faithful Catholics. Evangelical Protestant ecclesiastical communities base their services on sermons - if they started preaching feel-good Christianity (eg. Joel Osteen), they may have many people in the pews, but does their faith have any substance?
Good suggestions concerning evangelization and caring for the faithful,
God Bless.
Yes, their faith does have substance. I know many evangelical Protestants who love Jesus with all of their heart, and they demonstrate their love for Him in their daily lives. They are holy, kind, loving, generous, in control of their passions, and willing to sacrifice for the sake of the Lord Jesus and His people. Many evangelical Protestants have such deep faith that it puts Catholics to shame.
And many of these faith-filled people go to worship services week after week, year after year, with “pop” music, clapping, etc.
It’s not what they do in church that makes people come to church faithfully. It’s not about the music or the preaching.
It’s what they do OUTSIDE of church that makes people come to church faithfully. When someone loves Jesus and His people, they want to be with Jesus and His people.
Don’t you see, everyone? It’s not about what the Church does or doesn’t do–it’s about the interior lives of Christians. Their love for Jesus and their desire to obey and please Him compells them to attend Mass (or worship services for non-Catholic Christians).
Any parish in the Catholic Church can do EVERYTHING right, everything–correct liturgy in either form, ethereal music, dynamic homilies, reverent atmosphere, friendly people, and the Eucharist–Jesus Christ Himself–and people STILL would not come to Mass!
Likewise, a parish can do many things badly or even incorrectly–abuses in the liturgy, really bad music, boring homilies, noisy atmosphere, snotty people–but there are still people who faithfully keep coming to Mass.
We must face the fact that even people who are well-catechized make a deliberate decision to reject the teaching and disregard their faith. To many of us, this is unthinkable. But it happens all too often. There are a lot of people who DO understand what is happening in the Mass, and they choose to ignore it anyway. God have mercy on them.
I believe that the only way to get people to Mass is to
pray for them
Ask the Holy Spirit to quicken their souls, bring them to repentance for unconfessed sins, and restore to them the joy of their salvation. Then they will come to Mass.
I also believe that we who are Christian must strive to live out our faith boldly and joyfully in the world, so that others, both Christian and non-Christian, will be drawn to Christ in us. This, of course, means that we must love one another and the love must be practical, not just warm feelings inside.
