What would Jesus say to Charles Taze Russell

Because “Jesus” is not a Hebrew name. The name was “Yeshua” (see, no J) --which transliterates to Joshua, or to Jesus.

In Latin, it would have been Iesus Christus. (no J).

It’s not hilarious. It’s very sad. I appreicate the OP’s post. As a former JW I can totally relate to the pain that Russell HAS caused millions of people - not just in this life - but eternally. I would like to think that this is what Jesus would say to him. Leading all of those millions of people astray is VERY serious.
Agreed. You must have an idea of what those people put my wife through:( 10 years of absolute public and private humiliation.

She had been talking to some witness ladies that came to our door for awhile there for a few months, and my wife just one day told them not to come back.

she said that she could not reason with them any longer as they were not wanting to reason with her, so she asked them next time they came back to please not come back to our home anymore.

I totally respect her decision too. if they are not willing to listen after she has spoken to them for so long, why bother? her health is declining, and she has no more energy for them, and frankly, neither do i.

As for the Op’s post, honestly, i have no idea what our Lord said to him when he died and was judged.

That is between him and God. I don’t presume to know what our Hevenly Father says or does when someone dies.

I can say that God will judge us all. let us hope we are found in favor and not in disgrace when we meet Him who is above all.

That’s my point about the name “Jehovah”. It’s a translation (not a transliteration, as you mistakenly refered to Yeshua - Jesus/Joshua; Yeshua is an English transliteration of the name in Hebrew) of a Hebrew name through Latin into English. (See original post in this thread.) “Jehovah” has come to be accepted as the English translation of the Hebrew tetragrammaton since before the days of the KJV and Douay. It seems it is only since Jehovah’s Witnesses started using it that the Protestant and Catholic churches have had a problem with it.

It is in line with screwtape letters. I am just writing from the heavenly side of things.
That is what I was thinking as I read it. But to be fair, Lewis did write from the POV of a demon. I would enjoy seeing that version. The demon writing to the demon who whispered (or yelled) into Mr. Russell’s ear.

We do need to tread carefully when writing from God’s POV. But with that said, I don’t fault you for writing tongue-in-cheek. I did find it worth pondering.

Wrong again but nice try…! Please provide a any source material for this assertion…!

appreciate your writing to share your concerns. I realize that you taught there was no hell and therefore it must be a great shock to find yourself in the sixth circle. Apparently you missed my many mentions of hell in the New Testament. By the way I did not appreciate how your Jehovah’s Witnesses changed my words in the New World Translation. Also the Hebrew language does not contain the letters “j” or “v”, so the proper way to pronounce the divine name is Yahweh. If you are going to insist on using it then get it right. In addition I am not Michael the Archangel. Your letter was delivered to the wrong address. I am Jesus Christ, the Word of God, who is God. Please make a note of it.
You also got a lot of other things wrong. For example the dates of my second coming. 1874, 1914…make up your mind. Actually the date of my return is secret and no one will know the day or the hour. I said that repeatedly, but unfortunately your Jehovah’s Witnesses ignore me. They have set many dates and all of them have been wrong. Yet somehow this evidence of being false prophets eludes their followers.
The Watchtower Society that you founded has caused me much pain. When I see all the children who died because of their false teaching on blood transfusions I become angry. On a related matter I would appreciate you not sending me anymore Watchtower magazines. I don’t need Jehovah’s Witnesses trying to correct my thinking. I am after all the Truth. Their vicious attacks on the Catholic Church, my own body, are most distressing to me.
You have stated that you wish to join me in heaven with the 144,000. How you came up with this idea of how many would reign with me I find perplexing. How could you be so dense? I never said any such thing. It is this kind of thinking that landed you in a burning tomb for all eternity. However, you can join me. If you admit that you were wrong, acknowledge God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, repent of your sins, and accept my love. I know this will be hard for you. So many in your circle rejected my words in favor of their own. Please take a moment to reflect on what I have written. Down there you have plenty of time to think.
Sincerely,
Jesus
Dear Son of Jehovah.,

I read your letter with some interest. I must ask you however by what authority do you decide that we are wrong?

I must also question your authority about a number of other issues too!The number 144,000 from the fact that at the time it was published, we were 144,000 strong. Sadly we have now exeeded that number so have the dilemma of trying to decide who of our members are not included in that number. We havnt worked it out yet but are working on it.🙂

Ok so we got the date of your return wrong. Ok so we got it wrong a more than once. Ok so it was a few times. Anyone can make a mistake.

This Church of yours, do not agree it is teaching with authority. The only authority it can claim is from you. Who are you anyway? St Michael or someone else perhaps!

Just because you founded a Church and just because it teaches what you say and just because it has all authority given to it in Heaven and on Earth, that does not necessarily prove that it is right!

I accept that some founding fathers studied ancient Greek and that it is alleged by some that they had to drop out in their first year for reasons that have not been made extant. However, it is still believed they are qualified to define the Ancient Texts.

We might ask you which school you attended and what your qualifications are!

I think you are taking this ‘name thing’ a bit far. You see when the founding fathers orginally interpreted and translated from the ancient texts, we did not have access to the linguistics you have today. The interpretation of Jehovah was actually spot on with the thinking of our day. It is only in the light of more recent research and linguistic understanding that the semantics have changed from Jehovah to Yahwee. We think this is a very minor point anyway and arguably you are splitting hairs!

The interpretation isnot open to scrutiny by you. Errors in interpretation have been made but we are doing the best we can. I think you should give us credit for that.

We did not miss your teaching on ‘Hell’ it was editted out before we got a chance to read it properly. It is forbidden to read any other bible so the truth is not accessible anyway, least not to us.

Did you know for example that your mum had 10-other children? Look at your own Gospels where it is written 'The brothers and sisters of Jesus. Get out of that one…if you can 😛

Anyway if we get any more letters like the one you sent us, we are going to take our complaint to the very top.

Yours Sincerely

[Name and address withheld].

PS Dear Church of Christ pray for us.

lso the Hebrew language does not contain the letters “j” or “v”
Then why do you call him “Jesus” with a “J”?
Actually ‘‘Jesus’’ is not an accurate translation ‘‘Isseus’’ is a more accurate one.

I pray that may not be known, then that most sacred of names may not become one to be uttered as a swear-word or by-word for cussing

I really cant understand people thinking there is no Hell. Hellisreal.😉

And I think they only deny it because they know that’s what’s waiting for them…
Unfortunately, they deny it because Satan is singing a sweet melody in their ear and they are enraptured with it.

I would ask them to play the song backwards to hear the real truth, but they cant hear me, I dont exist. LOL

wailling and ganshing of teeth is not a melody I want to hear, but I know its there, and real.

Uhhh, gee, Beroean . . .
Raymundus Martini, a Spanish monk (a CATHOLIC) from the 13th century was the first one to use the name, Jehovah.
A little study of history would have enlightened you about that . . .

AMEN 😛

Actually, the PROTESTANT “American Standard Version”
was the first Bible to use Jehovah’ throughout the Old Testament.
It used it over 6,000 times. This was way before the Jehovah’s Witnesses began to make a Big Issue out of the Name itself.

Older Watchtower publications, pre-1930s, did use the name “Jehovah” sometimes, but more often than not referred to God simply as God, the Lord, or Our Lord. It was Rutherford who got a bug in his ear about making a Court Case out of constantly using the name Jehovah back in the 1930s.

Dear Charles,

I appreciate your writing to share your concerns. I realize that you taught there was no hell and therefore it must be a great shock to find yourself in the sixth circle. Apparently you missed my many mentions of hell in the New Testament.
I found this forum through Google. I am not with the JWs; I am associated with the Bible Students movement, the same movement that Charles Taze Russell was associated with.

I found Charles Taze Russell being so misrepresented here that I felt a need to respond to some of what is being posted. Almost every sentence of the humanly manufactured letter from Jesus misrepresents Russell, something I am sure the real Jesus would never do.

Russell did indeed believe in the Bible hell, and no, he did not neglect Jesus’ references to the Bible hell, and I am sure that the real Jesus knows that, and would never have claimed otherwise. Indeed, Russell, in his writings, examined every scripture in the Bible relative to hell, included sheol, hades, tartaroo, gehenna, lake of fire, etc.
By the way I did not appreciate how your Jehovah’s Witnesses changed my words in the New World Translation.
Russell had no “Jehovah’s Witnesses”. He never heard of a religious organization called “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, nor did he believe in the same things that the leaders of that group teach. He denounced the formation of such an organization until the day of his death. I am sure that if he were to return to earth today, he would denounce that organization, and much of what it teaches.
Also the Hebrew language does not contain the letters “j” or “v”, so the proper way to pronounce the divine name is Yahweh.
Neither does the Hebrew language have the letters “Y”, “A”, “H”, “E” of “W”. Yahweh and Jehovah are simply two different English variations of the same name as expressed in the Hebrew tetragrammaton. “Jehovah” is based on a latinized form, which, in turn, is based on the Masoretic Hebrew text, with the vowel points supplied. “Yahweh” is based on certain Greek rendentions which drop the middle vowel sound, probably because it had become indistinguishable in the Greek ponunication, some like a transliteration as IAOUE to IAUE.

Again, I am sure that Jesus was aware of these things, and certainly would not, like many humans, find fault over the linguistical differences in the pronunciation of the holy name of his God and Father, even as I am sure that he does not find fault with the linguistical pronunciations of “Jesus/Joshua/Jeshua” in English for his own name. The English form “Jesus” is based on the Latin form, the Latin form on the Greek form, and the Greek form on the Aramiac, and the Aramaic on the Hebrew. None of the various linguistical forms of the Son’s name are “incorrect” because they are not pronouced as his name was originally pronounced in Hebrew, they just simply “are”.

To keep this post from becoming too long, I will return again later, Yahweh willing, and post some more.

Christian love,
Ronald

Russell believed until the day he died that Jesus did return in 1874. I believe the same. He never had any thought that Jesus returned in 1914.

It is absurd to think that Jesus would not know that he returned even after he had returned, or that no way was provided for his servants to know that he returned. The real Jesus foretold that he would return as a thief in the night, and that his followers should remain alert, so as to know when he returned, implying that those not alert would be ignorant of his return, even after he had returned.
The Watchtower Society that you founded has caused me much pain. When I see all the children who died because of their false teaching on blood transfusions I become angry.
Charles Taze Russell sought, before he died, by means of the by-laws he had prepared for the Watch Tower Society, as well as by his last will and testament, tried to prevent the WTS from becoming what it did become, even as Jesus cannot be blamed for the many atrocities that have been committed in his name. Russell cannot be blamed for what happened after he died. After Russell died, Joseph Rutherford, through deceit and legal trickery, gained control of the WTS and used that legal entity to create an organization with himself as its head.

I know that Russell would never have thought of forbidding blood transfusions, and I am sure that he could express himself today, that he also is greatly pained at what the WTS has become.

Of course, Russell wrote nothing about blood transfusions. What Russell wrote was: “To the Jew [the eating of blood] was forbidden, and under his covenant it was made a symbol of life–to partake of it would imply responsibility for the life taken.” (Watch Tower, April 15, 1909, page 117 - Reprints page 4374).

Scripturally, the eating of blood is forbidden because life, the soul, is represented by the blood, which life [soul] belongs to God. If a life is taken away, respect is shown to God for that life by not eating the blood. In keeping this respect blood should be drained from the bodies of dead animals that is to be eaten. Normally, no life is taken away in the process of a blood transfusion. Thus, the scriptures do not forbid blood transfusions.

Enough for today.

Ronald

Welcome to the forum Ronald!

One thing I do agree with you is that Russell does get too much focus in conversations and study about JWs. If anyone should get credited with founding JWs, its Rutherford. And IMO he was a much more flawed individual than Russell was.

A few questions that I have for you is
  1. How are Bible Students trained to respond to JW specific beliefs? And how are Bible Students views received by the JWs?
-As far as I know I’ve never met a Bible Student in person and most of the JWs I know are unaware they exist.
  1. How do Bible Students justify Russell’s incorporation of some aspects of occult (pyramids, astrology, masons, etc).
–Of course that may require an exhaustive answer and probably is a topic that belongs to itself. Feel free to copy my questions and start a new thread.

God Bless
