What would you do if you won the lotto

Move to California, like other suddenly wealthy people have done.

I have wondered if there would be a way to anonymously give the money even to relatives. Or to anonymously claim the prize. If I won, I would want to give a lot of it away, but I wouldn’t want anybody to know it came from me, for very selfish and well as unselfish reasons. 😅

I’m thinking I’d give 10% to my diocese and some money to the capuchins or another order. Then I’d get a maid and a driver and a cook and an accountant and a lawyer

How about you all?
I’m going to hide.

We’d set up a charitable foundation and put 95% of the money in that. With the other 5% we’d pay off the mortgages and student loans of family members. The charitable foundation would have a board of directors which could include my wife and I, a few select members of our family, and a member of the parish. The board would identify charitable needs that we could fund. My wife and I would invest the funds so earnings and interest will fund the selected charities.

Possibly buy a house with atleast one more bedroom and bathroom that we currently have. (3 bedroom 2 bath is manageable but cramped)

Set aside money to help my children pay for college if they choose that route, but probably also not tell them any of this happened.

Pay more than 6 dollars for a haircut.

Donate half to my parish churches, especially one that is very much in need.
Use the rest to travel and support animal rescue. I would like to have a “rest home” for elderly cats who get dumped by their owners.

Now that I think of it, I’d also like to get an expensive car too

Many big lottery winners end up going broke and filing bankruptcy.

The first thing to do is to hire a lawyer who specializes in handling lottery winners. He will refer you to an estate attorney and an accountant. Don’t spend any of the money. The purpose of a big pile of monetary assets is not to spend it, but to use it to generate income. You don’t see big universities and charitable foundations spending their billions of principal. No, they spend the income it generates.

And if you give money away to friends and relatives, you will pay gift taxes in addition to the income tax that’s already been paid.

Why so many lottery winners go broke.

I’d finally get that dang rear view mirror in my car fixed.

Cars and chickens?
A dangerous combination.

Just going by experience, my wife is a back seat driver, not her fault that’s just where she ends up. Faulty accelerator.

Would it be a sin if I bought the company I worked for and fired the manager who fired me?

I’d move someplace safe then I’d call my brother who’s a financial guru and ask him to help me set up trusts for our family, the church, my child… basically do all the legal stuff I need to do before claiming the ticket, then claim the ticket, buy a new house, pay off all debt, if my child has student loans, pay them off, buy a new car for my hubby, myself and my daughter. Once I was sure I wouldn’t need to be employed anymore, quit my job and retire to the mountains of North Carolina where I could live in peace and quiet (50 acres should be plenty for a golden retriever rescue operation)

As I said before, I’d form the Signit Foundation and contribute to appropriate causes.

And, of course, I’d help my local parish, the other Church I attend near where I work, and the national Church.

I always said, if I won a lot of millions I’d give at least a million to my state Republican Party, in the interests of helping them maintain a level playing field and give voters a fair choice.

In my case, the last thing I would do would be to help relatives.

If a relative needed the money, that would be another thing; but I don’t have any relatives in need of help.

I would not give the money away. Instead, I would use it to start companies to solve specific problems. I would try to figure out brain death, and how we can overcome brain trauma. I would help people get their own homes by buying a house with them and keeping my share until they could buy me out. I would support energy alternatives to oil and natural gas. I would help people start their own businesses.

Tithe, charity, pay off our mortgage, save.
With the rest (and I’m
Pretending I won HUGE) I’d build a nice barn, have electric and water run out to it, and put in a nice milking parlor for my goats. Then I’d buy more goats. And more chickens. And alpacas. And have a barn built for my alpacas. Then I’d hire a house keeper to come in and help me once a month or so with the house. Then I’d probably adopt as many kids as I could and travel to India to help in an orphanage or build as many as I could. That would be my biggest dream. Building good orphanages in India and adopting more kids.

Assuming it was a huge lotto win…

First… I would pay off as much debt as possible. Then, whatever I had left, I would give some (at least 10% to the Church and other Catholic Charities) and save the rest so I can move into full time ministry.
