Reality TV - “Follow the Bishop”. A show about the activities of a different bishop each week. Show him in action. Air some of his speeches/homilies.

How about a daily soap (clean one)😃 about the day to day life in and around a parish?🙂

T.A.Stobie:
A sitcom about two good priests and a parish staff serving a parish and all they do each week.
when you said this
**Father Dowling Mysteries came to mine for some reason or the G.K Chesterton “Father Brown” TV version. Maybe we should have a show along those line more toward Father Brown.
**

The Barrister:
I would like to see a new reality show called “Destroy Your TV.” Every week the show could profile one or two families whose lives have been dragged into the gutter by TV. In each episode the family members can relate some of the evil that came into their house because of the boob tube, how grades dropped, attention spans shortened, arguments developed, and slothfulness set in. They could then explain how they came to this realization, and how they got the courage to finally destroy the evil box.

Then they could blow it up. Real good!

That was the best!:rotfl:
But I was thinking more in the lines of a reality show Who wants to get to heaven ?
But I wish a show would come on like Little House on the prarie or the Waltons, but since it won’t I will forgo the destruction of the television because there is always EWTN!

Okay, I want to see the Jesuit order reborn, the setting should be far enough in the future so that we can have lots of colonies in space that have lost their way and need conversion. We could have cool spaceships, martyrs, great preachers, adventure, explosions, all sorts of way awesome cultures and plots!

Failing that, I want an old fashioned variety show. No “reality”, no “family life”, etc. This is an Entertainment network. Sports could be okay too, without the usual trail of garbage ads.

I would like to see more programs that portray Catholicism in a positive light, something sorely lacking on entertainment TV.

We can’t forget the medical drama–maybe about the life of a chaplain?

And I agree with Didi. Bring back the Muppet Show! And maybe a clean version of “Whose Line is it Anyway?”.

I didn’t watch it, but I heard good things about the PBS show that took several families, stuck them in a period frontier house, and kept the cameras rolling. That would be appropiate for the new channel, as well.

And what? Every week they vote someone out of the class? No thanks… :rotfl:
No one gets voted off!
You are assuming that this reality tv idea would follow the formula of ALL other shows.

On this one,we follow their progress and their struggles.

NO ONE GETS KICKED OUT!

Remember we are expressing our thoughts, not writting the program’s
story boards.

Take some fiction novels written by Catholic authors and make programs/mini-series’ out of them.

A priest I know says that “Touched by an Angel” has done more theological damage among lay people than the Protestant Reformation.

“Masterpiece Theater” quality mini-series of John Henry Newman’s novel, Callista.

The weekly Good Samaritan Award awarded to a new person each week based on their acts of charity. The program would give a synopsis of their work.

Don’t know why he would say that…but I like the show and its spiritual…about theological damage(?) well , I don’t agree…I think its lead people more to faith…than away…

Hey Stobie, I really like this one…! I love those kinds of shows…
Where I live one of the local tv stations gives a volunteer award out and I like watching it…it show what people are doing in the community…
Now if someone in enterainment would take you up on it. 👍

To answer the question of the thread: nothing.

I turned my TV off 18 years ago, and I haven’t missed it since. I prefer music of a number of varieties, and reading; and my life has been none the worse for having turned it off. I have no clue as to what the plot was on Sienfield (Seinfeld? whatever…). I can’t even keep track of the names of the cop shows, and the medical shows, and the cop/medical shows. I find, when I have to put up with a show at someone else’s insistence, that they are dumbed down to a common denominator somewhere on the par of a high school drop out; the commercial breaks are inane and incessant, and when I get done with the “episode”, I find nothing challenging in terms of realistic plots and resolution, but rather, transparent shorthand for anything approaching true dramatic exploration of human emotions and/or struggles.

And I won’t even get into what I think about the news…

I think that’s the point, otm. Make television worthwhile again. There’s nothing inherently bad about the medium, same as with music, books, movies, plays, and musicals. If we made this channel, with shows based on the ideas here, would you watch?

Reality TV - “Go with the Missionaries”

This program funds missionary trips with volunteers to help improve lives throughout the world. It would track a two week trip as the volunteers try to help total strangers improve their living conditions by get fresh water sources to the villages, building structures, improving living conditions, etc.
It would ask for contributions to fund further trips.
