I just pulled a load of flannel sheets out of the dryer. They’re so warm and cozy; I want to wrap myself in them and take a nap.

What’s comforting or cozy for you?

Food, unfortunately. Anything with sugar. Best comfort food = creamed chipped beef over mashed potatoes with peas.

An ice skating rink–always feels like home.

Home. Wine. Good company. Sometimes family or friends. Sometimes music, but sometimes music is drama. Legal writing as well, especially if I can write something really intellectual, not just a paid argument.

Hot coffee
The smell of tamales and fresh salsa on Christmas
A warm bed on a cold morning
The smell of bread baking

Hot coffee with cream

Reading in bed

Popcorn with real butter and salt

Working on–and finishing to satisfaction—a project

Baking bread

Putting on warm, dry clothes after getting out of wet ones. Mmmm…

My family and friends, my home. Also when I go to a hospital or medical office and I see a crucifix, a statue of the Blessed Mother, any sacramental. 🙂

What is MOST comforting for me… is the Mass and Eucharistic Adoration.

But I also really like my old, soft sweat shirts… sweat pants… and my warm, purring kitty cat “Spooky” sitting in my lap. 😃

My husband… just feeling him beside me in bed or in church or in the car, when he reaches out and takes my hand or rests his hand on my back or just calls to either say “hi” or “we’re out of milk”.

The sky could be falling in flaming chunks, I could be in dire pain from a ruptured appendix, or I could be having one of those days when my hair looks like it was styled by a clothes dryer with my son’s cleats tumbling in it… and suddenly I’m okay.

BlueRose,

I am totally with you on this one…it’s my husband! Just having him reach out and hold my hand has such a calming effect on me…almost like a drug 🙂 I read a study not too long ago that actually proved that just holding a husband’s hand had a proven calming effect on the wife. I believe it only worked if the couple actually liked each other and got along well, though 😉

Holding hands, a hug, having him hold me in bed at night…the sky COULD be falling down, and all would still be right in my world.

A hot shower after a night in the cold office. I work graveyard shift. By the time I get home (2 hour commute, one way) I am stiff, cold and so tired…I take the hottest shower I can stand and let the water hit my neck and upper back and then I can go to sleep…

A long soak in a hot, steamy lavender-chamomile bath. Then, getting into some comfy PJs, and snuggling under warm covers with a good book. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Imagine that. Ahhhhhhhhh…what am I doing here?!

Cold day, reading in bed with the electric blanket on.

Arrggh!

Why did I fight through ice to go to work today?

Sitting down to dinner with the entire family. Now it only happens around Thanksgiving or Christmas. Our oldest lives in Boston and we only see him a few times a year.

Hanging out freshly washed clothes on a warm sunny morning and putting fresh sun-dried sheets on my bed.

A big bowl of pasta.

A sparkling clean kitchen with the sunlight streaming in and homemade soup simmering on the stove.

Watching small children sleep.

A freshly bathed baby. They smell so nice.

And last, but not least—The Easter Vigil–with all the smells and bells and promises of a New Life.🙂

Going to daily Mass, being around my children and grandchildren, holding hands with my wife as we fall asleep at night, attending sporting events and the feeling I get after vigorous exercise.
