Just curious.

It seems like I’m always reading two or three books at a time, and have a stack of books waiting. My personal stack is short, so I’m looking to fill it.

In progress:
  1. St. John’s Gospel, Steven Ray. I use this to lead my weekly bible study, we’re at John 10.
  2. The Gospel of John, William Barclay. Same purpose as #1.
  3. Onward Catholic Soldier: Spiritual warfare according to Scriptures, the Church and the Saints. John LaBriola.
Just finished:
  1. Unbound: A Practical Guide to Deliverance From Evil Spirits. Neal Lozano.
  2. Angels. Peter Kreeft.
My stack: EMPTY!!!
 
In progress:

1 - Agatha Christie - Murder on the Orient Express (can you believe I’ve NEVER ready any of these?)

2 - G.K. Chesterton - a collection of short stories

Just finished:

1 - Tom Grace - Secret Cardinal

2 - Morris West - Devil’s Advocate

3 - Joanna Glass - Woman Wanted (not recommended)

American Exorcism by Michael Cuneo Fascinating survey of exorcism/deliverance practice in the US.

10 Books that Screwed up the World by Benjamin Wiker. Survey and refutation of 10 evil books (as well as 5 others “that didn’t help”)
very good intro to some of the truly twisted thinking over the last century by the likes of Sanger, Hitler and Kinsey

It was a bit of an odd situation. Working for a Truss Company and being laid off for 6 months, work for 5 weeks and get laid off again and laid off for 2 1/2 months and now working for a different company. That just got me interested in reading spiritual books relating to Catholicism, which I need to learn more about since I hadn’t researched being a cradle Catholic all my life

Gotta love Chesterton and Lewis…when I started Orthodoxy, I read that Lewis viewed Chesterton as his spiritual father! 👍
 
I’m getting thru Augustines’ City of God-slowly

Then I want to start on the Summa or at least a little pocket Aquinas book I have but I don’t know how far I’ll get there.

I’ve also Got one of Richard Dawkins anti-God books on hold at the library because I like to be armed.🙂

I want to start on St John of the Cross soon.

I also carry either a pocket-sized book of sayings from Thomas Merton of a copy of St. Josemaria Escriva’s The Way in my back pocket to help me out during the day (Lord knows I need it!).

Gospel Living: Every Day of our Lives by Teresa V. Baker, SFO

Franciscan spirituality, theology and mysticism were my major in grad school. I continue to stay on top of it. 🤷

If you want to begin learning Franciscan spirituality, I strongly suggest Ignacio Laranaga’s book. It is one of the best works on Francis that I’ve read or the sermons by St. Bonaventure.
