I’m grateful that I was raised Christian. Kali, Huitzilopochtli, and Moloch just wouldn’t do it for me. 😃
Would you care to elaborate on that? Why are you grateful? What is it about your religion that is enjoyable or brings happiness to your life?

Because he hasn’t given me any reasons not to 🤷
I think we know the fact that atheists don’t believe in God is a major reason why they don’t follow a particular religion. 😃

We also have a fair idea why they don’t believe in God, and I don’t think that’s what the OP was asking. However, I understand you were responding to a particular question.

Does religion in general not appeal to you? If not, in line with the OP’s question could you expand on why? There are religions that don’t require belief in a personal God as such. I think Buddhism is one of them. I don’t know a lot about it, but I have recently watched a fascinating documentary about Buddhism and can understand it’s appeal. Does any of it appeal to you? An American guy interviewed on the documentary said Buddhism had a particular appeal to people in America because it is compatible with the American ‘can do’ culture. What do you think of this?

I ask because personally speaking, I think religion brings something to people’s lives even if one doesn’t believe in a personal God as such. Therefore, not believing in a personal God is not in itself a reason to dismiss religion altogether.

It is very natural to believe in the Creator God; you should have not denied Him in the first place. Why should you doubt Him?
I know you were responding to a particular post (see above). However, what the OP asked is what is why you (not you personally) are glad your a particular religion, and what you enjoy about it. It’s a fair question and outside of the argument ‘it’s the right one, and by following this religion I know I’m doing what’s right.’ it’s actually not as easy to answer as it may appear. In addition, many people who believe in God choose not to affiliate with any particular religious denomination. So it’s a fair question to ask why others who believe in God do.

So, arguments relating to the existence of God aside as that’s not an issue for either of us, and in line with the OP’s question, why choose Islam over other religions, and what do you enjoy about it?

Expanding on mink’s posts, I am wondering if you atheists or anyone who does not practice a religion - do you guys feel unhappy? Religion is such an important part of many people’s lives, do you think we are missing out in some way? Or are you content with your (non)belief? Theists, please do not answer for the atheists, threads like those get closed
This thread is about happiness 🙂

Okey dokey. sorry about that. Thanks for not closing it.
So anyone else want to respond to my OP or elaborate on their answers? 🙂

You know, I was just counting down the time until I saw someone criticize this post somehow. I do I lot of reading around here, but never post anything due to all the “opinions” and bickering.

I finally see a post which seemed pretty fun, safe and harmless to participate in, but without fail, her comes another confrontational post.

sigh

I’ll go back into the shadows, I guess.

Robert
Robert,

May I invite you to a thread I started Volume II. Thank you.👍

But atheism seems to be a religion because they surely do have believers. 😃

How awful it must be to believe there is nothing. And to have no real evidence for nothing. We live, we die, nothing.

It’s worse than reincarnation. At least with that belief you can come back as a cockroach. Yuck.

Well I am a Catholic Christian. Basically, I have not joined into the Catholic Church but I have adopted there beliefs, prayer habits, including praying to Mary and the Saints. I am still learning myself. However, I find that I am closer to God. I do not know how to explain it really except that I am at peace, and I look forward to going inside a Catholic Church, I love them. It is so surreal to see a statue of Jesus looking at you, as well as a crucifix to kneel before, and all the saint statues, windows, etc. It is just easier for me to worship God this way.

God bless you!

Well, I do think my religion is true… but since you want an answer along the lines of “what makes you happy about your religion:”

1 a. A sense of belonging and community that spans across the world and across centuries; an ancient faith that has lasted two thousand years and continues to live on, this really is a good feeling. There is a profound sense of cultural and communal identity in being Catholic that I didn’t have as a Protestant, and certainly not as an agnostic.

b. The prayer life, the feast days, traditions, incense, vestments, sacred space, devotions, saints, etc. give a great sense of beauty and all add to this sense of antiquity and cultural identity and community. In the Presbyterian Church I grew up in, there was some reverence but a lot of the ceremony of it was kind of looked down upon, and the liturgy seemed under-developed. In many churches today, they try to take the sacred out altogether. The worship services are more like rock concerts and the pastors dress like skaters and hipsters and tote phrases like “I’m not religious, I’m a Christian who loves Jesus” and stuff like that.
  1. The sacramental aspect of the Church gives a very personal connection with God and the Church in a way that I didn’t have before. Having to go to confession keeps me aware of where I am spiritually and holds me accountable, humbles me and allows me to make corrections where they were needed. I didn’t have this as a Protestant, and that is why I was able to become nominal and complacent and eventually I became agnostic. Going to mass and receiving communion has a lot of the same effect. These things are very powerful at keeping one deeply rooted in faith.
  2. Catholicism is so big, and so vast, that you can never stop learning from it. There is virtually no end to Catholic knowledge and theology. There are so many different aspects to it. I can’t get bored.
Overall I really wanted to know God and I believe I know Him through the Catholic Church. I am happy with how much I have grown because of God even though I still have a long way to go. I am filled with joy.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I love Catholicism because (I know this will be controversial) I really believe that the Church is right on moral teachings. When I read the scriptures, the Church Fathers, the encyclicals, I see a system that is totally based on love and the utmost respect for human life and dignity. I see so many aspects of our culture as counter-active to this. Most attacks on the Church that claim Church teaching is not loving are usually not looking closely enough at the issue or are oversimplifying and putting words in the Church’s mouth.

I love being Catholic due to the universality of it. Knowing that I could walk into any Catholic church and be at home.

Also because of the feeling when I walk into a Catholic church. I feel reverent and prayerful. I feel at peace.

What’s so great about YOUR religion?

My religion respects all the revealed religions and the truthfulness of the founders of all the revealed religions and this is a very peaceful approach for peace in the world.

???

Islam doesn’t consider other religions to be truthful. Perhaps you do, but what about other religions that contradict what Islam teaches?

How come on muslims countries, Catholics are being killed and the Church being destroyed?

But what do you consider to be “truthfulness”, if any at all? It very much seems that the art of deception and bargaining the truth to be the second nature of a muslim.

Are you glad you’re a _______? Why? What do you like about it? I am not looking for apologetic-type answers like “it will help me get me to heaven” or “it has the fullness of truth.” Just down to earth stuff. What do you enjoy about it? Why do you choose your religion over others? If you have converted from one religion to another, what is it about your current religion that makes you glad you did so?

Why does your religion make you happy?
I am a Protestant and I am happy to be written in the Book of Life and saved by the Blood of the Lamb. Alleluia and praise be to God!
