Other than the Douay Rheims what is a good Bible.

The best Bible is the one you read. It’s really a subjective thing, but the RSVCE is highly recommended.
 
The Barnes and Nobles near my school only has the NRSVCE and the NABRE I am planning on getting a Douay Rheims Bible for my confirmation but I would like to have a nice bible other than the cheesy paperback what are super large and bulky

I think I wasted my money buying the NRSV. I had actually asked for the RSV when I was given the NRSV instead. I didn’t know the difference between the two at that time. Later, after about a year, I came to know that the official bible of the Catholic Church is the RSV and not the NRSV. I felt cheated. :mad: When I went there again and asked for the RSV, they told me that it was out of print and that the NRSV is the only one that is available. I want to ask - what is the purpose of the NRSV? …

What about the NABRE or just the regular New American Bible

I like the New American Bible, especially because of the section headings throughout th text which is really helpful.

I also have the New Oxford Annotated Study Bible which is like as well.

In terms of translations, I like the New International Version (INV) best
 
I don’t have an opinion of those I really like the Douay Rheims and Latin vulgate side by side also.
 
I want to get that one but its almost 100$ I might ask for it for my confirmation
 
What is? The NIV translation? It’s my favorite translation but I don’t use that Bible since it doesn’t have the deutrochronical books.

Granted, no translation is perfect. Have to go back to the Greek sometimes

yeah thats what I meant they all sound the same but can be very very diffrent

The best Bible is the one you read! 🙂

However, some good translations are:
  • RSV-CE
  • RSV-2CE (also known as the Ignatius Bible - by Ignatius Press and by other groups like the Augustine Institute)
  • Jerusalem Bible
  • New African Bible (which is the same as the NABRE, but without the NABRE’s footnotes)
  • Confraternity Bible

The NRSV and NRSV-CE has inclusive language.

The Ignatius Bible is actually the RSV-2CE. It is an update of the RSV-CE by removing some archaic pronouns and updating a few words here and there.

The NRSV-CE is a totally new translation of the RSV-CE, while (again) the RSV-2CE is really just an update of the RSV-CE.

But to sum up what I’ve read many places, the RSV-2CE is what many Catholics hoped the NRSV-CE was going to be.

Just like on the Protestant side, the ESV is what many protestants hoped the NRSV was going to be.

Compare the NIV’s Matthew 15:1-9, Mark 7:5, Galatians 1:14 (“bad” tradition) against 1 Corinthians 11:2, 2 Thessalonians 2:15, 2 Thes 3:6 (“good” tradition).

Then reference the Greek for all these passages and see if the Greek uses a different word for any them.
