When I have the urge to commit a sin, logic doesn’t affect me, I quickly calculate the method of instant gratification (always, sin) and I regret it later when I actually think about it. What do you do when the urge for instant gratification hits? I’ve tried praying, rationalizing why it’s a bad idea and trying to get my mind off of it but none of those are fool-proof.

One trick is to simply ask God as directly and simply what is your problem. Like, “God, help me not sin in the face of temptation.” And if you fall. Start over. We fall and get up and fall and get up. Don’t think you are “failing”…your awareness of the problem alone shows growth. It’s a life-long trial. Fall. Repent. Confess. Pray. Train/Learn/Study. Pray. Pray. Fall. Repent. Confess. Pray. Train/Learn/Study. Pray. Pray. etc…

If you do find a fool-proof trick to not sin, I hope you will tell me. 🙂

Pray the Rosary each day and you will receive the grace needed to resist temptation. The powers of this magnificent prayer never cease to amaze me!

Daily prayer and to ask for help to avoid sin with regular attendance as often as permits at The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Mass with Holy Communion…

Pray, everyday,

Throw yourself headfirst into the Sacrements! That’s what they’re there for.

Praying the rosary daily helps too.

Be patient, and have faith.

Prayer. You might try this. I learned it on Father Corapi’s site. It’s the “911”! You say nine “Memorares”… followed by one “Rosary” and one “Chaplet of Divine Mercy”. Happy Easter! 🙂

This helps me…I hope it helps you, too.

Prayers and obedience… Don’t let a day pass without praying… and

Remember always… that you are to partake worthily in the Eucharist at least once a week… that you are a temple of the Living God… and that the Holy Spirit resides in you… and you are NOT suppose to defile yourself!

You are to do this as an spiritual and mental exercise… until you have the mind of Jesus centered in your life…

Then do some charities no matter how small…❤️

God bless.

Be angry, and sin not… Give not place to the devil.

My friend, I will give you the advice several different priests gave to me (same advice, different priest, same Jesus!).

Realize that to be tempted and to be weak (and sin) is human. Through God and prayer and frequent sacraments we learn to die to our human nature. Repressing and denying this human nature will only amplify it, as it did for me, and as it seems to be doing for you.

First, praise God that he has made you a healthy man (woman?) when you are tempted, and thank Him that he has given you this opportunity to grow in holiness. Embrace your human nature, welcome the temptations into your life instead of running away from them. But, welcome them and offer them up to Jesus, so that he may help you deal with them.

Second, remember Jesus came in full flesh. He had all the same tempations that you and I do. When i was deep in my hole of sin, i remember saying “Jesus, you must have had these problems, help me”, and it helps.

Praying is good, sacraments are good, but don’t forget your humanity in there!

Receive the eucharist daily if possible. Pray in times of temptation. Say the Rosary every day. Get an accountability partner. We christians need each other in times of trial. If you sin go to confession weekly. Have faith and hope that you will overcome your sin. There’s really not much more I can tell you. :o There really is no magic pill beyond living the life of faith.

Offer up your troubles in temptation for the happiness and good of others and that others will also live a faithful life.

I know I’m going to probably sin again in a certain way eventually but I try to think of two things to stop myself. For one I think that if I really do beleive in God and have as much faith as I would like to hope for, it doesn’t make sense for me to choose to offend God by sinning in that way. I try to think how if I beleive in God, then it doesn’t make sense to potentially add more time in Purgatory, if

I try to think how if I beleive in God, then it doesn’t make sense to take chances with my soul by premeditating a certain sin. Unfortuanately, I do not have that level of faith to continually think this way or sometimes the problem of presuming God’s mercy and thinking I’ll just go to Confession gets in the way. However the second thing relates to my first sentence

If by choosing not to give in to temptations and offering up the trouble to God, and combining this with prayer, if it can do something for just one other person, then that would be wonderful. Perhaps it means a soul being released from Purgatroy. Perhaps it will help someone I know in some way. Perhaps it brings someone to Confession and for that matter someone else’s prayers while avoiding temptation in a state of grace can somehow get me to get to Confession when I fall and need it.

daily prayer including examination of conscience, frequent recourse to the sacraments, adoration at least once a week, and physical mortification–fasting not only from food but from sensual pleasures (the old fashioned give-up-chocolate-or-soft-drinks etc.). Most of all, occupy your time only in worthwhile pursuits, and fill the void taken by what is now mindless activity–web surfing, video games, watching programs with vulgar or soul-deadening content–with works of service and charity. the nuns taught us that idleness is the devil’s playground, and they were right.
