I am so sorry you felt you had to put my thread onto this site. I thought this wasnt about mocking people who are searching but I obviously got that wrong and I got you wrong as well. Why dont you look into your need to do this? And you know what, everything I wrote that is supposedly a " crazy anti-catholic whopper" comes from the internet which I read a lot about over a period of time in my searching which is far from anti-catholic. I am going to report your comments and any others like it. Try a little mercy From to seek, the person you are laughing about!!!
You wrote it right? I mean, it is on the World Wide Web in public for all the world to see, right? So a guy in Nepal or Bolivia can read it, right?
Then defend your words instead being over-sensitive.

Thanks for your posts…

I don’t argue with the logic with several of the fasting rules. However, I do think that just as strong a case can be made for alternate fasting rules… which means that there is an amount of subjectivity to them. I think this subjectivity can extend to other elements of the faith. If Irenaeus (or some of the other Church fathers) had put there considerable weight behind one of the alternates, isn’t there a good chance that others would have followed?
Probably. That’s not what actually happened, though, and we don’t get to rewrite history the way we think it should have happened. As lay people, our job is to follow the leaders of the Church in every commandment they give us that does not involve any kind of sin. This is how Christ has organized His Church. “What you (Peter) bind on earth is bound in Heaven, what you loose on earth is loosed in Heaven.” Jesus gave authority to the Church, and He backs it up - it’s like when the parent puts the oldest child in charge - when the younger kids come complaining to the parent about the rules that the oldest kid is giving them, the parent backs up the oldest kid by saying, “Do whatever he tells you to do, or else expect the same punishment from me that you would get if it were me making the rules.” 🙂

I’m sorry if you took it that I was laughing at you. I sincerely was not! I did find it incredious that you would “believe” those things. Surely you do not believe everything you read on the internet? It doesn’t not sound like you do from other posts. But honestly I don’t know how you could “swallow” such “whoppers” as this posted on the internet. I know if I read that Baptist, for example, had satanic symbols…I would not believe them without some research from their side. And I do believe anytime you say the church has satanic symbols…that is anti-Catholic. Sorry you do not agree. 😦 Sorry that you feel the need to report my defense of my faith. 😦

Hello again, everyone…!
Welcome back! You were away too long!
So, when some of the church’s best thinkers were pondering the Trinity, etc… they were “handling poison”? Or “playing in a mine field?”
No. Who says that?
What if they were warned of the danger, and decided to not to ponder those things, I wonder?
Then whoever warned them had departed from the teaching of the Apostles and had no authority to “warn” them from contemplating the Trinity.

I don’t argue with the logic with several of the fasting rules. However, I do think that just as strong a case can be made for alternate fasting rules… which means that there is an amount of subjectivity to them.
Yes, I think we already covered this. Just like some of your rules as a parent are subjective. Why is the curfew 10pm and not 10:15? It’s pretty subjective, isn’t it?

However, this does not mean that Truth is subjective. If the time is 10PM there’s no way your teenager can argue, “well it’s not really 10pm. It’s actually 8:03PM”. The hour of the day is a truth that cannot be argued with.

I suppose your teenager can try to argue with you that time is really subjective, and I venture that this is as ridiculous as some adult folks who try to argue some similar truths about religion and morals. 🤷

Yeah, I know…That one left me :bigyikes: :imsorry: :sad_bye:…
Thank you! It seemed like everyone was just moving on from that mind blowing information. Glad someone else could share my pain.

Santa Claus is real, honey - don’t let anyone deceive you. He’s the spirit of generosity that inspires us to help the poor and give gifts to one another at Christmas time. 😉
Whew! Thank goodness!

Roy,

I don’t think we can generalize about all protestants. But fundamentalists and evangelicals do say terrible things about Catholics. Go to CARM and other forums run by these groups.

In general I have never heard any Catholics say terrible things about protestants. They might say that protestants don’t have the fullness of the faith and that they are outside the Church founded by Christ.

There are some groups of “Catholics” who are outside of the Church themselves that might say nasty things about protestants, but they also say the same and worse about the Catholic Church.
Reading this site, I wonder the same thing, how many of you can tell me that comments like youre all making are very christian. It doesnt show much charity for those who have unfortunate beliefs. Point No 2. Dont be too sure of yourselves having all the knowledge because youre in the RC Church. Ignorance is simply that, lack of informed knowledge.
It really is pretty much one sided and some of the comments are so bad that a person has to question if they are Christian.

The usual exceptions are Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists etc., the churches that were established early on. The further you get away from the break in the Catholic Church the worst the accusations against the Church are. There are no facts, just someone’s false opinions and/or downright untruths.

Most Catholics pray for those outside the faith to come into the fullness of the Church. I know many Catholics and have never heard any making fun of protestants.

I also have never heard a priest preach against protestants as many protestant preachers of certain denominations do.

In fact if you read many posts on CAF, you will find Catholics finding fault with some other Catholics or what is done in some parishes. Some of the views are legitimate if a parish has abuses within the liturgy.

If we are all honest with ourselves we need to admit that Catholics are the most hated church in the US. We are attacked constantly by the media and other groups.

Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

Bernadette

When I researched that stuff, I did not swallow it all like a gullible child. I was fascinated to tell you the truth. When you see clear evidence put in photos in front of you, isnt it a reasonable thing to question what if this were the truth? I made a statement that suggested maybe have a look at the site and see what you make of it in reference to apostasy in churches including protestant and catholic. My point is anyway, why be uncharitable in defence of the faith you have just returned to yourself? Surely you would have more understanding than others on this site?

So you believe everything you read in the Internet? Obviously so, and to the point of abandoning your faith because of it. You are right that we should not laugh at you, though. Instead, we should pity you and pray that God will bring you to your senses.

First I have NOT abandoned my faith, I sit in The Mass with my husband as we are both keen. SECOND I do NOT rely on the Internet as if it is gospel. I am a University Educated person with a searching mind and Im just as aware as you are that a lot of rubbish is on it!!!DWHERE DO YOU GET OFF MAKING ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT ME. ARE YOU AFRAID TO QUESTION THINGS OR DO YOU JUST LIKE POKING FUN AT PEOPLE. GET A LIFE.

Then defend your words instead being] over-sensitive./QUOTE If people have a computer in those countries, yes they can get on the net and research these subjects. Try looking at subjects like false churches, doctrines, endtime stuff and yes even subjects like secret societies etc. You can sift out the wacko ones, but there is a lot of information that has been treated seriously by educated people. Dont write everyone who doesnt agree with you or the church on subjects because you suppose the RC is the only church ever to shed light on The Truth. If you choose to swallow everything a church says, or another person says without thinking, more fool you.🤷

The recent thread “Ask 50 former Catholic priests” there are some real doozies in there:eek:

So can you tell us one thing that the Church teaches that you don’t agree with, and we can go from there?

I must admit that I took a peek but what, with this one, “Ask a Baptist Pastor” and “Why is it Wrong to love Mary”, I can’t take much more heresy and inventions.

I’ve mentioned in previous threads, though quite awhile ago, personally encountering a former Jesuit priest who in his new incarnation as a Protestant Fundamentalist (and who appeared in an anti-Catholic video produced in the 1980’s) totally fabricated the belief of Catholics regarding the Eucharist and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in order to disparage the Faith. It seems that in becoming anti-Catholic he also became pro-prevarication. 😦

I’m an active particpant in Yahoo! Answers, especially in the Religion and Spirituality section.
Anyways, there is an infamous Fundamentalist Christian, very anti-catholic.
He always copies and pastes the same exact argument in any question that has the word Catholic in it.

*Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism cannot get anyone into heaven, because catholicism teaches works for salvation, and that is a false gospel of works (Galatians 1:6-9) that is against JESUS’S free gift of salvation!

And catholicism will not give you a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, which is what JESUS wants with you!

So, catholic people need to get away from catholicism, and instead, to believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation!

It’s clear from the Book of Acts in the Bible that catholics didn’t even exist during the days of Acts. Catholicism didn’t exist for over 300 years after Jesus. And catholicism didn’t exist for over 200 years after the Bible was complete and compiled. Those in the Book of Acts are the first Christians, and they believed what would be called fundamentalist doctrine today. ANYONE can read the Book of Acts for themselves and see. Had catholicism existed during the time of Acts, the first Christians would have rejected catholicism completely.

Also there’s TONS of Christians who also completely rejected catholicism, long before Martin Luther was even born. Catholicism murdered millions and millions of Christians. :*(

So not only is it wrong for anyone to say that “catholics were the first Christians”, but this blows away the catholic claim that “no churches existed other than the catholic church, until Martin Luther”.

Every “pope” is a false prophet. And there is no “pope” in the Bible.

There were ALWAYS saved believers outside the catholic cult, who knew catholicism cannot save anyone.

Catholicism cannot save. Only believing in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, is what saves!

So, catholics need to get away from catholicism, and instead, to believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation!

Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much! 😃 And the Trinity is true!

The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!

Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation! It is impossible to lose or “leave” salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).

Please pray now: “Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!” You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die! :D*

The Same exact thing. One time he accused all catholics on that site of being linked together so when one of us gives some sort of signal, we all come and attack the “True Christians”.

Oh, dearie me! I’m only a junior member so I’m quite naiive about these fundamental Christians. That’s an oxymoron because there is nothing fundamental about what they say. We have the fundamentals of the faith. What you’re saying is that this sort of thing is quite common then? Does that mean that there are never any discussions that don’t have the evangelical spiel attached?

Ok–I’m going to try and not offend you–because sincerely that is not my intention. I did go back and look at my original post. Notice I did not mention where the quote was from? I did not mention you at all…just your words. So–I wasn’t laughing at you.

Regarding your posts…no I would not go out and look at that stuff–even if I was still protestant. I don’t go sifting through garbage looking for diamonds. It offends me. And if what you said was directed toward Protestants I would still say the same thing.

In defense of the faith I have returned to…yes…because I’ve fallen in love with my faith…and it has led me into falling in love with God again. So I will passionately defend it!:knight2:

Again…I’m sorry my posting it offended you.
