There are people who believe this.
Oh, I don’t doubt it. Some people will believe anything.
In fact, I never fail to be amazed at some of the silly things that people will say to you with a perfectly straight face…I am related to a considerable number of Fundamentalist Baptists who come up with these gems all the time. And that’s just one side of the family…
Runner up.
It’s gonna be hard to beat these two.
Oh, don’t worry; I have no doubt there will be more.
There always is. (When do we have our Annual Anti-Christmas Tree Frothing-At-The-Mouth? It seems as though its usually July or August…).

I bet half of those gems don’t even involve Catholicism but pretty much everything else that’s existed past the 1950s (or worse, 1800s shudders). 😛

I have actually found it rather effective to say, “Oh, no, no. We are far worse than any cannibal, since cannibals first kill their victims, before eating them. We consume the risen Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, alive and whole.” 😃

They haven’t come up with a canned reply for that one, just yet. 😛
I found that rather funny actually and that is something that I might say in one of my more mischievous moods. 😃 I have a sick, sick mind. 😉

I visited your home page by the way. You’re really cool.

It sounds like to me like, you haven’t sufficiently reasoned this out. Because, by admitting that the statement “Proves His Point”, is tantamount to admitting that you don’t have a reasonable or logical argument, with which to discuss this with the fella.

That leads to me ask you, then, if there is something about this statement that bothers you?
Are you trying to start an argument with me? I haven’t actually noticed much in this thread that lends itself to sound and reasonable arguments but to answer your question, maybe.

Hi, to seek,

From my experience, everyone has a different road to travel with their own ‘custom made’ cross.
Thanks Tom, Youve got me thinking about what it was that made me leave in the first place . I know I got a few challenges along the way from protestant friends and I remeber I did start questioning the faith I had particularly when everybody seemed to be doing everything by rote and not by conviction.

Let me offer an observation or two. if you choose to associate with non-Catholics who are discussing religion … and you are not too well versed in your own religion… just how do you expect the exchange to end? Right! So, there are really at least two issues here

1- not knowing your own religion well enough to discuss it with others

2- not associating with enough Catholics (or Catholic sites like this one…:))

But, you are in luck… 😃 You have the opportunity to learn a lot about the Catholic Church and have your questions answered to a remarkable degree of both content and insight.

Don’t become discouraged - and don’t give up. Remember, Christ founded His Church on Peter (Matt 16) and the Gates of Hell will not prevail. Your protestant friends have the teachings and traditions of men they have squeezed into a Catholic Bible that they then abridged! Just check out history. None of these characters showed up before the 16th Century - and Christ did NOT COME BACK and RE-found His Church on Martin or John or any other so-called ‘reformer’.

I am sure many on this list will be joining me in praying for you and success on your journey of Faith.

Reading the Bible through a few times I realised I was good at being religious and all that, but not good at being a follower of Christ, so began my journey into Protestant Churches. I left because for me something was missing and after a few setbacks within those Churches, I knew I had to go back to where I started. That doesnt mean I dont have a lot of questions to ask because I do and I am taking my time because I became unchurched due to disillusionment along the way. Thanks for your comments. To Seek.🎉

God bless,

Hi, Cosmian,

This is intended to be neither carcastic or defensive … but, by allowing this guy to rave on this way and not correcting him because you thought it, “… would have proven his point…” really missed the point.
No need to get all sarcastic and defensive with me, Linda Marie. The Paleo-Pagan regarded it as symbolic and I didn’t take the time to argue the finer points with him. If I had said as you have said, " We eat and drink the ACTUAL flesh and blood of Jesus…" it would have proven his point.

The idea that someone can have a few facts right and few wrong is a common human condition. As I appreciate the situation, if confronted with such obvious rubbish, we really need to at least provide the facts - no need to argue… just present the facts. A good place to start would be John 6.

God bless

Prompted by the above post ‘Catholics don’t know their own faith’, I can now recall hearing the ‘Catholics don’t know the Bible’ one many times, and ‘Catholics don’t go by the Bible, they go by what their Church tells them.’

I’ve spoken to many a Protestant who is unfamiliar with the Bible.

I’ve spoken to many a Protestant who’s interpretretation of the Bible originates with their favourite Minister.

I’ve spoken to many a Protestant who doesn’t know what their own Church teaches.

And wait for this one, I’ve met ‘Protestants’ who do not go to Church, don’t believe in God, and have not been baptised!

Perhaps you don’t need to baptised to call yourself a Protestant or go to Church, but I would assume believing in God would be a requirement.

This one is umm… Yeah… That is one seriously scary site.
Even better - our Net nanny blocks www.jesus-is-savior.com becuase it falls under “Racism and Hate”.

When the author posts as “evidence” the many articles he read last year that were written in Polish, French and Russian, I have to scratch my head. If you know languages as distinct from one another as those, why on earth are you wasting time posting mutant schlock dribble when you could be making six figures as a translator at a multi-national?

To the images - you know, there’s absolute detestment of any image whatsoever among many of our Protestant brethren. The nicest I heard was from my college roommate (a Presbyterian minister) who simply said “I’ve no use for statues.” It’s almost as though they pay more attention to the images than we do. The pseudo-psychology of “an image stays in your mind forever” is bogus - but it’s one way to fit it into a heavily-eschatological paradigm. He’s looking for the End and anything that remotely feeds it is game. Nevermind the Lord’s promise that the gates of Hell will not prevail - Satan can still win if he uses the right image!

Well–this David J. Stewart is a real lu-lu

" From the cradle to the casket, the Catholic Church offers people a package deal; but it’s a guaranteed road straight into the depths of Hellfire and damnation."
Arguments like these are hard to support when one thinks about them. If the Truth is so utterly hidden from us, how are we culpable for answering to that Truth? Would we not be invincibly ignorant? Would a merciful God condemn those from whom the Truth has been hidden, or would a capricious God do so?
This guy spews so much hatred and anger while at the same time talking about Jesus…and yet it’s the Catholic Church that is a cult and the “Pope is the Vicar of Hell”…
One can honestly disagree with Marian veneration and still praise them for their love of Christ despite it. To go as far as Stewart has reflects some emotional bias, some hatred elsewhere that is likewise not found in the Bible.

Hi tqualey,
I appreciate that your intentions are neither carcastic or defensive but what is the point of this thread? I feel like I’m being put on the spot because I didn’t defend the faith, is that the point?

I’ve come to the realization that there are certain personality types among the religiously minded of any stripe who are extremely intolerant. The Paleo-Pagan in question is one such personality. When it comes to Christians he has an irrational fear and hatred. I try to relate to him as one human to another even though the process is painful. I can only try to understand his point of view not change it.

I admit that I’m not a great Catholic warrior but I love the Church none the less.

I appreciate your trying and no matter how skilled the one posing the answer, there will always be someone who just doesn’t get it. Paleo-Pagan may very well be one of those. Just leave it. You tried.

I think this whole thread is just a place to vent. For all of us who have been too polite to report to HR when a coworker leaves a Chick tract on our desks or plays “Wretched Radio” when its their turn to drive in the carpool, we kinda need this. It affirms our sanity and reminds us that we’re dealing with people, always, who for one reason or another don’t get that their ignorance of Catholicism can not only be hurtful but counterproductive in their attempts to “save” Catholics.

Hi, Cosmian,

Sorry about the typo … sarcasm is such an interesting device in truly effective communications, wouldn’t you say? 😃

As I understood your post, this guy was raving on and stated as a form of ridicule that Cathlics actually eat the Body and Blood of Christ. And, you said nothing because this ‘…prove his point…’. And, that is where I lost you, Cosmian, was the point ridicule or that this guy actually did say the right words even though he probably did not mean them?

Ultimately, we have a lot of say about the battles we pick. But, from time to time we are required to step up to the plate and take the next pitch. The nice thing about CAF is that you have a chance to sharpen your skills so that the next time, you can knock the ball out of the park! 👍

God bless

I thought the point of this thread was a light hearted look at anti-catholicism for the purpose of dispelling the myths and giving us a few laughs along the way.

Yeah, really…I never fail to be amazed at how many people have no idea that Eastern Orthodoxy even exists, much less that it is a whole branch of Christianity separate from Catholic** &** Protestant.

Best one Ive heard?

The fact that in Mass we end the Lord’s prayer with “evil” means… well… we are evil…

Good one!
