👍

I just remembered who you are. My memory is shot, what can I say?
No problem, well that’s good for me. I found out that the parish I was planning on going to was FSSP and that sounded liked SSPX so I thought they might be a schismatic group. Obviously they are not, so I look forward to going to Mass there.

Wonderful. Regardless of my opinions re. FSSP vs. ICK, the priests of the FSSP are intelligent and very holy. You will be in good hands 🙂

Thanks I have a quick question though, can I get Confirmed through them or do I have to go through another parish.

Certainly. If you wish to be confirmed it will be arranged through the parish, and you will be confirmed in the old Rite.

Is that super different?
Yes, the older rite of confirmation has some differances. You would kneel before the bishop, who is seated before the Altar on the faldstool, and he gets to hit you! (well, its really just a little pat on the cheek)

Both the FSSP and ICK are wonderful organizations. I encourage you to check both or either of them out and learn more about them.

Provided it is the bishop who is confirming! But is that the case for priests when it is delegated to them? (Honest question, have never seen either situation in the EF)…

Amen 🙂
(as long as they don’t expose you to battle hymns of the revolution for over an hour! 😉 - that should have covered your penances for the next year)

It’s ICR, Institutum Christi Regis! The English acronym is somewhat offensive.

well if we want to get technical it’s actually…
I.C.R.S.S = Institutum Christi Regis Summi Sacerdotis (Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest)

I just use the “ICK” as a casual acronym - it’s sloppy, but hardly offensive.

If it’s worth anything I always write ICKSP in English, but had never even thought “ICK” to be offensive. After all, “ick” is not a proper English word, merely a colloquialism.

That is their official designation. Very good.

I can still remember all the words of La Carmagnole…

In the Old Rite it was not common until the 1950s for a priest perform the Confirmations. I suppose it would be the same rite for either priest or bishop, but the priest would never sit in the faldstool.

In the old rite it may not have been as comon in most of the world, it was actually the norm in parts of Spain, Latin America and the Phillipines - with infant confirmation being more common than the forms followed elsewhere. (It is still in occurence today in some parts of Mexico, but is largely - I am told - becoming less and less common.)

That being the case, there was always allowance for it (however uncommon here) so you have answered my question as to how a priest would proceed in conferring the sacrament in the old rite.

I was confirmed in the NO and the ceremony seemed a little empty, I think my mom is trying to get my sisters and brother (the three who are now of age) confirmed in the TLM, but there is no TLM in Vegas. Our parish has a liberal 2 year class that you have to take before being confirmed. So we finally found a priest who is starting a Latin NO and he said that he would help.
I was lucky (blessed) I was confirmed in Denver, Colorado, before my family moved to his horrible place. But unfortunately Archbishop Chapute did not preside, a visiting Bishop confimed me, and I have no clue why. 😦 🤷 It had the same effect, just not as nice as it would have been had the great Archbishop presided.

My mom always makes sure that we are baptized and recieve our first Holy Communions from FSSP priests, she loves the TLM, also the TLM baptizm includes an exorcism. I was the only one to recieve my first Holy Communion with my class, but that was because I was attending a FSSP school. (It is now closed )

Yours Through Our Lady,
Margarite

PS: there are six kids in my family :blushing: 18 :blushing: 17 :blushing: 15  13  11 :blushing: 7
