Whats the Current Status of FSSP?

The “vows” they are referring to…and correct me here if I am wrong… are the vows that religious order priests make - “Poverty, Chastity and Obedience”.

The FSSP is not a religious order so they do not make those vows. They do however promise obedience and celibacy…not the same as taking vows.

It is similar to that of diocesean/secular priests - they do not take vows either. The FSSP states that on their website so as not to be confused with religious order priests - who take those vows.

ALL priests take vows of celibacy and obedience.

Religious take “vows”, secular clergy make “promises”.

Secular Priests make promises of celebacy and obedience (unless thay are married, in which case celebacy is omitted).

Religious (priests, brothers, and sisters) take vows of poverty. chastity and dobedience.

Provided it is the bishop who is confirming! But is that the case for priests when it is delegated to them? (Honest question, have never seen either situation in the EF)…

We attend a FSSP Church, I’ve seen both done. The Archbishop came and confirmed my little brother’s conformation class in the Old Rite. Then when a friend of ours came in to the Church the priest got the necessary permissions to confirm our friend.

This is a new order located in Chicago that does both OF and EF Masses, but IMO mostly EF.
