What's up with cosmologists who don't believe in God?

If I saw no compelling evidence for the existence of God, I would be an atheist by now.

No, I have studied all the arguments in favor of naturalism more thoroughly and deeply, and with more combined knowledge of both science *) and philosophy (not just one or the other), than most atheists will ever do in their lifetime. While on the surface the arguments in favor of naturalism may seem attractive, upon deeper inspection I found them ultimately weak.

I find fideism, belief for belief’s sake, without evidence for it, stupid. The Catholic Church appears to agree with me, since it rejects fideism as well.
*) As a biochemist I know some science. 😉 I even have written an article on the origin of life by natural causes for Talkorigins.org, a leading evolution website (if you google for origin of life, my article should pop up on the first or second page).

Ys, but what if there was more to it thatn that? Belief is well and good, and reason is wonderful. Aquinas’ quote at the bottom of your post is right on. but near his end he saw something that made hom put his magnificent work into another perspective. So for all the good that belief and reason might be part of, there must be something else that makes those kind of pale, even if they are used to “get there.” You know what I mean?

They have the problem of explaining how rationality is produced by non-rational objects…

Actually, our humanity is what is necessary to transcend to know that, and to find it included in THAT. Yes?

Yes, and more than just think: Intuit, for example, and feel as distinct from sense. And we can, as well, discern and abstract the container from the contents. But the reflexive property of awareness is about the least used and least explored of all human faculties, at least in this age.
