Not having paid much attention to this whole DeLay thing, which has rumbled along for a year or more, I figured I could turn to this forum to get a feel for what is really going on.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t so far aroused the interest of those members who are normally keen observers of the Washington political scene.

Can someone give me a quick low-down on the facts, the outlook, and the implications?

Thanks.

Ronnie Earle has made a habit of using his office for political persecutions (not prosecutions). He did the same thing to Senator Kay BaileyHutchenson and the charges were either thrown out or she was found not guilty. If these charges are thrown out (which I think they will), he should be charged wit malicious prosecution and removed from office.

Does anyone know what Earle’s success record has been in prosecuting politicians?

Regarding removal from office, one of the blogs I just looked at implied that Earle is leaving office soon anyway.

I am not sure, but I think it is goose eggs or close to it.

Perhaps Mr Earle is going to be working with Michael Moore

The is Mr. Earle’s witch hunt. DeLay isn’t even connected with any of the alleged crimes that took place. Unfortunately for Mr. Earle, he was speaking about this case at a Democratic fund-raiser a few months ago and he may get brought up on charges of ethics violations himself.

Why the dems just don’t get it
  • The prosecutor has tried two other times to bring these charges up and they didn’t fly and stick with the grand juries.
*The prosecutor has said " I will be the man to bring down Tom delay during a speech at a dem convention
Are these things starting to smell like a witch hunt?

*The people of his district will continue to vote for him because he fights for us and fights for life. Everyone who runs against him is pro-abortation and that just doesn’t fly in our district at all.

Check out the nation review. They have a great article on it all

These charges probably won’t survive first contact with DeLay’s attorney, who also defended Texas Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison in Earle’s crash-and-burn case against her in 1993. Hutchison, up for reelection, insisted on a jury trial. As soon as a jury was chosen, Earle refused to proceed. That judge threw out the case. The same thing should happen this time, if the case even makes it to trial.

:amen:

Is there a process to have the a state’s capital moved to another city, one a little less infested with liberalism than Travis is?

First things first :

All politicians are not crooks all crooks are politicians.

that being said. If we were to all look at reality and take off the rose colored glasses we would see that Mr. Delay as well as many other republicans and Democrats alike have some moral and social behavior problems to deal with.
If any of us want to try to believe these men and woman are 100% honest in all there business dealings and dont lie, cheat, and steal then no one has ever worked for the federal government or in washington before.
Being in Politics you can start of with every good intention in the world, but the corruption that is in the DC belt will get the best of anyone and does all to often.
Mr. Delay would be better off if he came clean with the American people, the truth shall set you free yet the truth to most of the political people could get them jail time.
Read the Washington Post it will tell you all about it or the Government Executive.
And Pray for these people that God can show them the way to be honest and decent people and do the right thing.

Latest twist to this story.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 - House Republicans arranged an unusual monthlong January recess to give Representative Tom DeLay ample time to escape legal troubles in Texas and retake his post as majority leader. But a triumphant return was dashed this week when his longtime associate, Jack Abramoff, pleaded guilty to public corruption.
The decision by Mr. Abramoff to cooperate in a broadening federal inquiry reaching deep into Mr. DeLay’s inner circle led some influential Republicans on Wednesday to issue new calls for Mr. DeLay to abandon his goal of regaining his post. The scandal also emerged as a serious new distraction to the White House and Congressional Republicans as they seek to right themselves after a rocky 2005…
