For a blog purpose, I am wondering what your top issue with the Catholic Church is?

Papal Infallibility, no ABC, no divorce, etc? I am looking for topics to write on.
Thanks in advance!!

As a protestant… I have no beef with what the church actually teaches.
No ABC? Hey, that’s your choice.
No divorce? Well, I’m not 100% sure WHAT your exact views on divorce are, but I’m fairly sure they’re reasonable.
Papal infallibility? Eh, I’ve never exactly understood that one.

Anyway, my beef? I don’t have one with what the catholic church teaches.
I got nothing. I like you guys, mostly.

My issue is not with the Church, but the Catholics themselves.
The hypocritical behavior, the ones who blatantly ignore what their catechism says, the ones who think all us protestants hate them, just because we disagree with them… 🤷

I think that would be a good topic to blog on: The way catholics treat eachother, and others.
Spend awhile lurking in these forums, and you’ll pick up on some really odd, and disappointing, behavior. I think it would be an interesting thing to write on… But hey, that’s just me. Good luck on your blogging. 🙂

Not to critique your message, but this forum is entirely anonymous meaning anyone can call themselves Catholic or Protestant or whatever. This doesn’t mean that they are. The sentence I bolded above^ could be applied to all Christians. God Bless!

Tough question, actually. For me it’s probably a tie between 1) what seems to be an innate inability for institutional self-critique and 2) sloppy biblical scholarship.

For me I would like to exclude the Catholic Church and focus more on Christianity in general. My beef?:1.) It could be the lacking of generosity and love…or 2.) looking at the flaws of others (persons and Churches).

Is your question directed at non-Catholics (as I surmise from the location of this thread)?

Eric

My only Beef with the CC is I’m having a problem getting their in the Snow.😉

By what standards are you judging institutional self-critique and Biblical scholarship? Were those standards passed through Apostolic succession or something from a more modern Church view?

My only problem with the Catholic Church is myself. I don’t always meet the standard, and often times fall into sin.

So…
A Catholic asks for help with a blog and when he gets help, other people jump on the people who answered…makes sense to me…

Don’t worry about them. Just answer the OP please, and be an example of how one should truly act on a forum.

Peace

I believe that the Catholic Church Traditions (big T) are the result of myths and legends growing over time and are not the same as the Truths found in scripture.

For me it has really come down to, not the primacy of the Pope per se, but how the CC sees that primacy, in comparison to what it was in the early Church. Any other issues for me are probably related to the first.

EDIT: As an afterthought, I wouldn’t consider it in terms of “a beef”.

Would you be open to exploring these myths and legends on another thread?

Over the course of the last 4 or 5 years, I cannot imagine anything new has surfaced that we have not discussed at length. But if the topic is narrow enough to allow a deep look at Ante-Nicene literature, or the lack thereof, sure.

My beef? Usually a Ribeye or a New York, medium rare. Yummy! 👍

But why can’t I be Catholic? I don’t buy papal infallibility, the CC’s claims to unique status and authority, the Marian stuff (I love and respect Mary, and IMO it’s totally legit to call her the Mother of God, but I think y’all come a little too close to deifying her), or the teachings on sexual morality where it differs from the Protestant norm. All that said, I adore a good many Catholic writers, including Chesterton, Tolkien, Peter Kreeft, Garry Wills, Hans Küng… and a certain Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger.

If you don’t mind a response from someone who is neither Catholic nor Christian . . .

I really don’t care about the marriage or divorce issues. If the church sanctions or fails to sanction marriages or divorces is only relevant to those who adhere to church teachings.

I don’t know what “ABC” is.

But there are some areas that I have real issues with.

I wouldn’t call these issues “a beef,” but rather the reasons I would find it difficult to be a Catholic - outside of the fact I am not a Christian.

I find papal infallibility impossible to believe. There have been good popes and bad popes. From what I have read of the Catholic Church’s history, there have even been some labeled false popes. They are men, no more, no less, and I cannot believe any man was or is infallible.

The Catholic Church has way too much doctrine. I know it has a lot of history, too, but it seems close to impossible for anyone to completely understand all the intricacies of Catholic doctrine and put them into practice effectively.

This leads to another issue, having someone interpret church teachings for you.

To have someone help you to understand the teachings would be one thing. But I see too many people who don’t bother because others have made their decisions for them.

This has led to some Catholics, at least some whom I know, practicing their faith without knowing why they are doing the things they do. When I have asked why the church teaches something, or why certain rituals are performed, people often give me the “deer in the headlights” stare and say something along the line of, “Because that is how its always been done.”

These are a few things that came to mind.

Hope this helps.
