My girlfriends and I are regulars at our local McAlister’s… By far, our default! 😛 (And my favorite restaraunt!)

Not big on chain restaurants, although Cheesecake Factory is pretty darned good.

Pop’s Shop–based on a 50’s diner, has soda fountain, 30 different kinds of grilled cheese, and good home-cooked meals like “mom” (not my mom but I’m sure someone’s) used to make, mac’n’cheese, meatloaf, turkey…you name it–if it fits the mental image of “home cooked food” it’s probably on their menu.

Glad

Lately, it’s been Fort Street Brewery in Lincoln Park, MI. The food is very good and reasonably priced, the beer is excellent (and again, reasonably priced), and it’s a very clean, family-friendly restaurant. We frequently see three-generation families there for dinner when we’re there. Kids are welcome until 9 pm, I think.

Plus- every other Thursday night as well as on some special occasions, the brewmaster releases a small-batch ale, and opens the cask with a toast and a prize drawing for anyone who ordered a pint of the special ale. I won one of the prizes two weeks ago. Nothing big, but still fun. 😃

For special family occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc.), we go to Mother Tucker’s. We like the salad bar because it has every kind of pickle (including pickled beets), cheese, lettuce, cold vegetable, and pasta that you can think of, plus sweet bell peppers of every kind. We also like their roast beef. 🙂

For breakfast/lunch on the road, it’s always either the Husky truck stop or Denny’s.

For quick snacks, it’s either Wendy’s or A&W.

When we don’t feel like cooking but we want to eat in, it’s either Singapore Sam’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

When I’m at work and I need to stop for a meal, I like Rice for King, which is a new Vietnamese place that just opened up down the street from where I work. I love their spring rolls and rice vermecelli. 🙂
Haha it is fun to see where you like to eat since I live in your town and totally know all those places. I used to live right behind Sacred Heart Church. My place to eat is Swiss Chalet. When in Ottawa or Quebec, it is St. Hueberts!!

We’ve got a couple–Subway (DH loves the BMT), Danna’s, a local BBQ place with the best spicy BBQ sauce, and Parmesan’s, a local pizzeria. They have the best pizza sauce I’ve ever eaten. It’s just a little spicy and completely yummy!

In our old town it was Montana’s. Though we really loved this little place called Marbles, but it was more expensive, for special occasions.

Here we have so many options! When we go to the mall we usually go to Jack Astor’s but we also love the Irish restaurant called Belfast.

The Double TT Diner at the corner of Joppa and Belair Roads. All the diners around here seem to be run by Greeks, and this is no different. They have a couple of Greek dishes - the lemon chicken with roasted potatoes is the greatest. They serve a great breakfast all day, too, including scrapple. But what keeps us coming back is the finest chicken noodle soup I’ve ever had.

For awhile there, we went there so often that I expected the hostess to ask us, “Don’t you people have a stove?” 😉

Panda Express Chinese food. My girlfriend and I go there all the time, and every time we go to the mall(which is often), for the last 2 years. Something about orange chicken and chow mein just tastes good, all the time, no matter my mood 😃

either golden corral or the chinese buffet. we dont eat out real often so i like getting stuff i dont make myself. i can do the golden corral menu but not all at once.

also since it costs so much i like the buffet thing. i can eat enough to get 2 or 3 peoples moneys worth. not stuffing myself like a pig, im just a big eater. just yesterday i had a whole duck by myself for dinner. granted that was partly because it was so good, but i just tend to eat a lot, nearly bankrupted my parents in high school i think…at least thats what they say.

Try the Pho Ga’ – but ask for it “Canadian Style” if you don’t want a ton of organs and skin. Then you’ll get straight chicken.

You’ll love it!!! (We say American Style down here – but you know, considering your location. 😛 )

McAlister’s would probably be my default. I enjoy a good sandwich and sweet tea. They happen to have both…what more could a man ask for?😃

If we are talking about a real sit-down restaurant though, I may go with a Mexican place we have here called Los Cucos. Good Mexican food (not the usual chain cuisine) with good service, and good prices.

I really hate chain places - we call it “toy food”. 😃 We prefer Red Coat Tavern for the very best burgers in town, or an Irish pub, Four Green Fields, for fish and chips on Fridays.

For weekend breakfast we found a little down home country style place called Kozy Kabin. 😃 The food there is great and the prices are amazing!

For a quick sandwich on the weekend we will go to Jimmy Johns - the closest I’ll get to chain food.

(Ok - I have to confess, I do love Olive Garden once in awhile. :o )

I will join you in that confession. A couple of years ago my parents wanted to take me somewhere nice for my high school graduation and asked me where I wanted to go. I told them I really just wanted to go to Olive Garden:blush: 🤷 . I think they were kind of disappointed because they were hoping for an excuse to go somewhere kind of fancy:p .

Well when we lived in Southern California (Yorba Linda) we loved to eat at this place called DW SUBS–but everyone called it “deedubs”. 🙂 The BEST sub sandwiches ever! Our favorite (and still my fav) is Don Jose’s in So cal. Ever since moving here from Cali 2 years ago I miss it so much! I dream about that food and Tex Mex doesnt taste as good to me.

Here we have a few places we like…

The Gristmill in New Braunfels has great tortilla soup! We love Red Lobster, and mexican restraunt called Adobe Verde…not as good as my favorite restraunt but a close second. What I really want to know is whats up with the chili on enchiladas here??

Oh year I forgot about Freebirds! They have one close to me in San Marcos so I dont have to drive an hour to Austin to get one anymore:D

Yeah, I discovered they weren’t a chain shortly after I posted that and had to go back and do some minor editing of my post:blush: . It has never felt like a chain though, and the food doesn’t feel like what you usually get when you go to chain restaurants.

And it seems I am unfortunately on the opposite side of the fence when it comes to the great ongoing Freebirds v. Chipotle and Laynes v. Canes debate;) .

yeah i have about an hour drive crossing downtown houston if i want it. so i just wait for my trips back to the promised land on the brazos.
