Well, we live in the sticks… 25 miles to nearest McDonald’s (nevermind an Applebee’s) so if I don’t cook or Mom doesn’t issue an invitation (MIL lives next door), we could go hungry… however, there is a tiny little place five miles up the road on the reservation called The Old Road Restaurant. Best kept secret in the area and some of the best food anywhere. Mexican food is their specialty, but they make an outstanding burger (you can order it double, with cheese, or green chile) and pretty good chicken fried steak. When we can’t decide what we want, we just get the combination: 1 beef taco, 1 chile relleno, 1 red beef enchilada, 1 green cheese enchilada, rice and beans. Good stuff! And we get the sopapillas for dessert (if we have room, which we often don’t!)

Actually there is a small town 13 miles from here that has a Tastee Freeze and a truck stop restaurant (okay for lunch, but not that great for dinner) along with another drive-in type place and a couple cafes, but the Old Road is still closer… and better!

either golden corral or the chinese buffet. we dont eat out real often so i like getting stuff i dont make myself. i can do the golden corral menu but not all at once.
Last year, because things were so skewed for Thanksgiving, we went to Golden Corral. I almost wish we were going there again this year, except I won all those darn turkeys and a ham. We were not the only family there. Some families brought board games and cards. Some people were dressed up, others had on their Thanksgiving sweatshirts and jeans. Everybody left big tips, and everybody ate well, whatever they wanted.

It’s Culver’s for us! (Culver’s is a midwest chain, I believe) I go just for their fries; best stuff ever. šŸ‘

ETA: Another reason is because the franchise owners are members of our parish and have a huge, decorative sign in the restaurant of the Lord’s Prayer. šŸ‘

yes!!

Love their ice-cream.

If you sign up for thier e-mail list and put down your birthday, they’ll send you a birthday coupon for a free sundae!

  • A local TexMex restaurant called Manuel’s (they have the best cheese enchiladas on the planet, not to mention fajitas, and oh yes, margaritas!)
  • I love seafood, especially tilapia, red snapper, etc… We enjoy Pappadeaux in Houston as often as possible.
I have never been a fan of Italian or Chinese fare, so I rarely choose these.

You guys are making me hungry…and jealous! lol

**We have slim pickings for GOOD restaurants where I live. I mean, I am sure there are some great places, but they’re not well known (at least by us) so when we used to eat out ot was at places like Boston Pizza. We did like Olive Garden and Red Lobster for awhile but the quality has steadily declined:(

The Keg Steakhouse has never disappointed us, but it can get expensive fast!

Anyone watch Gordon Ramsey’s ā€œKitchen Nightmaresā€? Makes me really think twice about eating out (and about all the times we already have).

A nice, family owned Italian restaurant recently opened up near our home. It actually has fresh food, a small menu, and reasonable prices. It has become our ā€œgo toā€ place on the rare occasion hubby and I get a night out.

If we lived in Ruidoso (25 miles in the OTHER direction from where we live!), Cattle Baron would be my default place, chiefly for the salad bar and freshly baked bread! And on Sunday night, they have posole :egyptian: as one of the soups (with shredded cabbage and chopped radish for garnish! :yyeess: Yum!)

You can find Culver’s all over,

Love walleye time and concrete malts.šŸ‘

We like to support the local eateries and brew pubs as much as possible and to avoid the chains. The names won’t mean much to anyone but one has very good crabcakes and fries and ā€œfreeā€ jug wine and beer. They don’t have a liquor license but there is a large ā€œtipā€ jar and everyone knows what to tip for the wine/beer. Within a short drive we have a a very good local rib joint, a bistro that serves the best breakfasts and lunches we have had anywhere though it only only open for prix fixe dinners for special event days like Valentine’s Day and a decent local family restaurant that has an eclectic American menu with a good selection of beers.

Of the chains, we like Chipotles and Applebees and Chilis. For an occcasional steak we like Outback. My DW doesn’t care for Cracker Barrel but I am partial to the catfish.

We love Thai food and are lucky to have a really good family-owned local place. Chicken with cashews, mixed vegetables and brown rice, spring rolls…yum.

We also like a little local Italian restaurant, and a wonderful, New York-style pizza place (took FOREVER to get one here that really knew how to do good thin crust.)

For the occasional steak, we love Longhorn, whose steaks I find of better quality than a very expensive locally-owned place.

Now I’m hungry, darn it!!!

A locally-owned, independent cafe/bakery/burrito/sandwich shop with booths and the radio on, dark and cold but relaxed, cheap, with a view of my street.

I’m hankerin’ for some of that great pad thai that I ate in Seattle. . . šŸ‘

We like the Olive Garden and sometimes we go to a favorite local diner! šŸ™‚

.
I’d stomp on a kitten for dinner at Papadeaux.

Speaking of Houston, I’d also stomp said kitten for Lupe Tortilla’s steak fajitas.
