Mmm Papadeaux. They have one in Atlanta now. Out near Windy Hill.

SCHLOTZSKY’S!!! :extrahappy: :extrahappy: :bounce: :clapping:
The kids and I eat there at least once a week. They know us by name and they know our order as well.

For breakfast after Mass we go to a local coffee house, Mokas. The pumpkin cream cheese muffins are the best along side a Chai w/soy. Kids have biscuits and gravy. :coffee: :extrahappy:

For my bday once a year we go to Gutierrez, a really yummy local Mexican/American restaurant.

Chez Shiann is the best eats in town though most nights 😉
👍
We dine frequently a little trattoria known as Casa Our-Last-Name. When the kids want to go out, and we tell them we’ll be dining at Casa Our-Last-Name, they pout and get onrey.😉

Ah they closed all of them in our area! And my fav was the one with the jalapeno bread.

I miss Schlotzsky’s from my Ohio days. Next time you’re there, tell them to franchise to central FL. We’ve got more deli’s than anywhere I’ve been. I don’t get out much anymore but Toledo had the best selection of non-chains of places I’ve been/lived.

I have had several people tell me how good Papadeaux is; we’ll have to hunt one down next time we head to Austin to visit dd.

Two places I’ve loved when traveling (New Orleans, Orlando, Denver, Austin) are Mimi’s Cafe and La Madeleine. Mimi’s is this fairytale looking cottage and serves a combination of really good comfort food (roast turkey, pot roast, etc.) and some more sophisticated dishes (lobster ravioli). I vote for the comfort food. La Madeleine is a French cafe with divine main dishes, breads, pastries.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if L.A. (lower Alabama) will be getting either of them anytime soon.
La Madeleine has 62 locations! Almost a chain… but, they do have some yummy stuff.

When traveling, I look for a local place in which the locals are eating. Failing this, Denny’s is dependable and they are open 24 hours a day; although you won’t find it on the menu, a plate of grits is always available. Another favorite is Cracker Barrel.
When I brought the kids back from México–they were taken there as infants–their request was Carl’s Jr…don’t know how they knew of this chain that doesn’t have outlets in the southern part of that country.
My preference in So. Calif. is generally “hole in the wall” Mexican places, where you’ll find Mexicans eating and Tapatío bottles on the table.
Rule of thumb: If it is an ethnic restaurant, there better be people of that ethnicity running it and eating there.🙂

:yup: I had a great lunch at a small Mexican cafe in Santa Barbara called Rudy’s. Since my Mexican-American father’s name is Rudy, it seemed like a good omen, and everyone behind the counter and at least half the lunch crowd looked to be Latino (I assume Mexican, but could have been Latin American). The food was awesome.

If you ever go north to the Antioch area, check out New Mecca in Pittsburg.
