What's Your Favorite Hymn?

What’s your favorite hymn?

My favorite hymn is “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”. In a way I guess it’s similar to Psalm 23. I also love the melody.
 
That is sooo hard to answer… but I suppose that my favorite hymn is “Prayer of St. Francis”. It is one of the few hymns that I know by heart.
 
Probably ‘Abide With Me’ because it was my grandfather’s and my mother’s favourite and I had it sung at her funeral. I have no idea of the state of her soul, but I pray God’s mercy for her, and comfort myself that she was the one who taught me the Hail Mary and the Our Father so something was going on there.
 
Lo He Comes with Clouds Descending. To me, it sounds best with only a high-quality organ and a choir.
 
O come O come Emmanuel. I think just because it’s so old, and it’s so pretty, that it really does make me feel, well I always say don’t base things on emotions alone, but that honestly makes me feel close to God.
 
So many raced through my head at the same time it’s hard to p(name removed by moderator)oint one. I like “Adoro Te Devote” and also “Once in Royal David’s City” around Christmas.
 
I don’t have just one. I like a lot of the oldies like Tantum Ergo and the old Marian hymns like Immaculate Mary and O Mother of Perpetual Help. Among modern hymns I really like “Born Again” and “Gather Us In”. And I’ve always been fond of “Simple Gifts” with the original lyrics, not the revamped “Lord of the Dance” lyrics. New or changed lyrics to old tunes is a pet peeve of mine.
 
There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy. What Wondrous Love Is This is a close second.

It’s a long story, but I used to hear that song three times a week , sung by Quakers, without instruments, as in the old Quaker dogma, musical instruments were deemed not licit for some reason.

And according to my tastes, the song is best presented when presented unadorned.
 
There’s so many to choose from but you said hymn and not song so I’ll offer the following:

It’s an advent hymn.
