Nobody has mentioned Indiana Jones!!!
All four are great movies, but the Temple of Doom has the best opening sequence, with Kate Capshaw singing Anything Goes in the Obi Wan nightclub in Shanghai, followed by the car chase with Short Round …
I liked ❤️ that, but only to agree that the opening is the best.

After that, the movie stunk in ice.

Kind of like how Return of the Jedi began to stink immediately following the escape from Jabba's sail barge.

My wife and I went to watch it on first release, almost fifty years ago now. From time to time I turned to her and whispered, “It must start getting better soon. Kubrick’s a good director. Let’s give it another ten minutes.” It never did get any better, but at least we watched it all the way through. It’ll be 50 years old this coming year (2018) and I suppose it’ll be on television from time to time. I read the novel just a few weeks ago, and now I wouldn’t mind giving the movie a second chance, even if only to see how closely it follows the novel―or how closely the novel follows the movie. Arthur C. Clarke was writing them both at the same time, though separately.
I can at least appreciate the “art” aspect of the film (especially in light of its time), and the middle half is a nice psychological thriller.

And: It spawned 3 tasty sequels, wisely penned by Clarke before being turned into a screenplay – Only the second has been brought to the big screen, but it was a much better movie (as opposed to the original “film”)

Now if you want a real clunker of sci-fi, I can’t believe I fell (heh) for 2013’s Gravity.

I don’t usually follow movie reviews at all (why should I trust some stranger’s judgment about what I should like?), but I could not avoid when this was promoted all over the teevee talk shows. And all of them described this amazing, life-changing movie.

Stink. Er. Roo!

The plot didn’t live up, the FX didn’t live up, the science was bad – Complete waste of time and money. 👎

Ummm, noooo. The thread is called “What’s your favorite movie” not “what do you think are the best movies”. You do not tell me what my favorite movies are; rather I tell you.

Come to think of it Titivillus has got a couple of great picks in his last post! He needs to post his own favorites list.

The George C. Scott version is one of my favorites also–it’s excellent! What do you think of Patrick Stewart’s version?

Hard to pick one. Here’s a couple, they all rank the same with me…
Secondhand Lions
The Whole Nine Yards
The Dirty Harry Series
And the comedies; Animal House, Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, Young Frankenstein and Airplane.
All the James Bond series.

If I told you your opinion of me would change for the worse, LOL
