Calceolaria - commonly called Pocketbook Plant, I had one of these many years ago. Such an unusual flower, reminds me of balloons!

On this Feast Day of Mother Teresa these her words are appropriate for this thread .

At an early age, her parents gave her the nick name of “flower bud”.

Most unusual… so I looked ‘em up and I think I can grow them, so may give it a go. They do look like a ladys’ handbag, don’t they, especially the one on the left. Or at least I can remember having bags of this shape!

@Sarcelle and @CRV; They are a often called lady purse or slipper flower, They are not from the orchid family. But do resemble them quite well. The pink ones are pretty. I remember my plant was quite a good grower and easy to look after. I gave it to Mum to look after when I went over-sea’s.

Oh my, they are so so pretty! Don’t know which ones I like most! So you grow them in pots? I was not sure, but thinking of in the ground? Seeing as you have experience, what do you recommend and how should they be cared for?

I had them in pots on the balcony, they did well. I have had friends whose plants did well in the ground. I was lucky to get have seedlings each year, which I transferred and replaced the original ones. They like some shade in summer, well watered and snails love them! lol.

Thank you for the care advice especially where to plant them - some shade in summer and to keep them watered - but especially about the snails! Perhaps I’d have to start leaving out saucers of beer for them, whilst hoping the neighborhood cats don’t think it’s a free buffet!

Even my humble Coleus is in bloom now

Ox tongue lily
had to look that up! 😄 I have two varieties of those. The common orange headed one which someone gave to my mum and which I got from her, plus a different looking one which is pink. I see if I can find pics.

Couldn’t find my own pic of the pink variety.

But here is a link to it on Amazon Pink Haemanthus. From looking at pics online, apparently there is a white variety as well.

Don’t plant the bamboo in the garden, otherwise you will have a lot of work controlling it. They send runners every where

No, haven’t been to that thread. It was to Greenfields thread about collecting from an an old home garden.
