So, just wondering what everybodies Good Friday meals look like today?

I just finished my first small meal and here’s what I had:

4 pieces of lightly buttered bread
A head of broccoli & a half a cucumber with a small amount of ranch dressing
A handful of blueberries
A plum

And drank a half bottle of vitamin water. I ate this at about 1pm.

My full meal will be had around 7pm, and it will most likely consist of some sort of fried fish, some coleslaw, and maybe some French fries or rice or potato. Then a couple pieces of fruit - probably a plum, and an orange.

Then around 9pm I’ll eat my final meal, probably some Veggie Chips and/or a few cashews, a small bowl of cereal (with skim milk), a handful of blueberries, a plum and an orange.

What are you all eating? Is anyone doing a full fast with nothing but water? Is anyone going to hold the fast through till after the Easter Vigil tomorrow?

Carnation instant breakfast. And no lunch at all. For dinner, cheese or margherita pizza and a beer. We thought about going to the seafood place (we are traveling this weekend) but that’s pretty expensive.

I’ve had one egg, fried, and one piece of toast with no jelly. I wasn’t originally going to fast today since I’m not yet obligated to, but I thought, why not? I may try to fast the rest of the day, but I might end up eating an apple or a granola bar if the hunger gets very bad. I will drink plenty of water today.

It’s been difficult staying away from the soda. I really want that soda. Pray for me that I won’t break my fast.
Excellent.

You’re not obliged to technically, but the Church strongly encourages and warmly invites all Christians to observe fasting, abstinence, penance, and almsdeeds on Good Friday.

Nothing.

Had a nice meal after the end of Lent (following Mass of the Lord’s Supper)…today is a fast day…abstaining from food totally today, until after the Easter Vigil tomorrow evening, and will feast then!

For breakfast, one egg—scrambled, with no seasoning—and a piece of toast.
For lunch, an orange.
I’m not sure what I’ll have for dinner yet. Perhaps a tuna melt and fries.

Usually 1 slice toast with tea for breakfast
1slice toast with tea for lunch
Sensible meatless dinner (pizza or pasta)

That’s if I’m on a normal schedule

Last night I worked the overnight shift. (11pm Thursday into Friday)
So, at 10:30 last night I ran through Mc Donald’s, ordered medium #1 meal with coffee and wolfed it down before midnight. At midnight I dumped the coffee. Worked my shift, went home and straight to bed. Haven’t eaten since (and now it’s in the 1pm hour here.
Also haven’t gotten up yet.

I’ll prolly have a tea and toast when I get up and a slice of pizza later for dinner.

My biggest challenge is I am supposed to get a certain amount of fiber each day (doctors orders) due to a medical condition.

So I had a high fiber V8 this morning.
Had milk mid-day, before my workout.
And I plan on making “fake chicken Parmesan” for dinner (whole wheat spaghetti, red sauce, topped with a Boca vegetarian “chik” patty, and a little bit of cheese.)

I think that meets the requirements for fasting (then end result will only be about 450 calories for the day) and I still manage to get the minimum amount of fiber I am supposed to get.

No breakfast, a baked potato with a little bit of butter and a side of broccoli for lunch, and probably a bowl of tomato soup for dinner.

I am planning to continue the fast tomorrow with similar meals. And then celebrate on Sunday!!

It’s worth noting that not all Catholics are obligated to even fast in the way the Catholic Church defines fasting. That said, as far as my meals today… I did not eat nor drink anything until about 2pm and at that time I had a cheese quesadilla, a bean burrito, and Mountain Dew.

Breakfast
Strawberry and Cream oatmeal made with 1 cup milk
Serving of frozen mangoes
Big cup of coffee with creamer

Lunch
Bowl Rice with melted gouda
1/2 cup blackberries

Dinner- planning on…
Salad
Baked potato with sour cream&cheese
Baked fish tenders

I’m still breastfeeding my 10 month old so very strict fasting would probably cause problems…

Well beyond fast requirements, but

Toasted bagel for breakfast

Bowl of tortilla chips left over from work party with siracha sauce for lunch

Probably tuna salad left over from the other day, assuming sis hasn’t scarfed it for dinner.

Small bowl of porridge for breakfast and battered cod and chips for dinner with a bit a buttered bread.

I had a few strawberries ih the morning. probably an egg salad sandwich for lunch and some fish, rice and veggies for dinner. hopefully that is ok. I am always a little fuzzy on how much constitutes fasting. I am iron deficient though so can’t overdo it either

@Angel1. That sounds like you held the fast to me (as long as that’s all you ate)

vegetarian dumplings and fruit smoothie in a bottle

might grab an apple or orange after the Liturgy tonight if blood sugar drops

Byzantine Catholic: no meat, nor eggs, nor dairy products, nor any of their byproducts, and food quantities at one’s own discretion.

Morning:
  • Pomegranate juice, 5 ounces.
  • Two small tangerines.
  • Piece of non-dairy chocolate 85% cacao.
  • Water.
30 minutes aerobic exercise.

Mid Afternoon:
  • Two bananas.
  • Three dates.
  • One/half ounce of almonds.
  • Three small tangerines, small kiwi.
  • One can of vegan split pea soup.
  • One diet soft-drink.
  • Water.
Evening:
  • Half banana.
  • Two dates.
  • One/half ounce of almonds.

I’d like to observe the Byzantine Rite fast some day, but I’m an obese man of enourmous appetites (eating isn’t the only thing I’m gluttonous with - I have a history of severe drug and alcohol abuse as well), so the meager Roman Rite fast & abstinence obligations are already tough to hold.
