I was just wondering: When a pope is canonized, why does Pope come before Saint in their name (ie Pope St. Pius X)?
Thanks,
Pax et bonum,
Joseph
Good question! I’m sorry, I don’t know the answer, though.JMJ

The correct way is the latter.I’ve heard both ways…St. Pope Pius X and Pope St. Pius X.
In the case with Padre Pio… Padre isn’t really a title like reverand… or pope… or bishop… but rather what people called him… and officially i think it’s “Saint Pio of Pietrelcina”… so…I’ve wondered about that. I presume then it should be Padre Saint Pio. I hang up every time I try to refer to him.
Because that was his title.JMJ
