When Darth Vader yelled, "NNNNOOOOOO!"

Um, what was wrong with that? CAF members should keep in mind that I’m referring to a certain scene in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
 
It was really goofy and too reminiscent of Frankenstein (the plodding motion, specifically). I think it could have been done in a way that was more poignant, in character and not so cringe-worthy. Then again, I have repressed memory syndrome when it comes to the alleged prequels so, honestly, I don’t really even know of what you speak.
 
If memory serves I think I involuntarily laughed in the theatre at that. I’m snickering a little now just thinking about it.

an anguished scream would have sufficed. a Noooooooooooooo is hilarious
 
I honestly think having him stand there in silence as everything was force-smashed around him would have been better.
 
I think for some film critics, it was the exclamation point on the interesting, underachieving prequels and where Lucas went from “let’s make $$$ and smash records with awesome graphics” to “I want to tell a story…for an Oscar or somethin”.

I really haven’t seen anyone say they’re a fan of that yelling.

To be fair, though, Abrams is in some danger of messing up the latest version of the movies, which could fuel the fire that one man in charge of Star Trek and Star Wars movies is just too much power.

I cannot even begin to mention what a mistake the Han Solo character deal was, and people like that even less than NOOOO!!!.
 
The first time I saw this (in the theatre), I was reminded of “KHHHAAAANNN!!!”

And it was just as bad.

In fairness, Kirk’s scream was actually intended in universe to be hammy. He was playing it up for Khan’s benefit and to sell the idea that they were genuinely stranded with the Enterprise limping home (remember the “by the book” conversation before they beamed down? ;)) It’s telling that his next line is more or less a nonchalant “so, what’s for dinner?”

Maybe so, but it’s a great example of Shatner overacting. :rolleyes:

Certainly true. But that was the genius of Nicholas Meyer, being able to turn that into an asset for once 😃

He was also in the same movie the only director able to get Shatner to tone it down: in the scene where Kirk drops Reliant’s shields through the access code trick, Shatner kept delivering the line “here it comes” is a smarmy, sing-song tone that screamed “it’s a trick”. Meyer kept doing take after take with Shatner doing the same delivery, till Shatner got fed up and delivered a flat, almost monotone line, hoping Meyer would take the hint and move on. THAT was the reading Meyer actually wanted, so that Kirk would sound defeated, selling Khan on the deception.
 
I was too busy watching Palpatine’s gleeful smile to have payed that much attention to the scream.
 
I’ve always watched it as homage to Luke’s scene in Empire Strikes Back, personally. It’s over the top, sure, but what I really take issue with is that shot of Vader and Palpatine watching the Death Star being constructed. It’s already recognizable, and it took twenty years to finish? They must have been working on both DSs at the same time for the second one to be so near completion by the time of ROTJ.

That wasn’t Darth Vader. He didnt exist until episode IV. The prequels were fairy tales which have little connection to the next three.
 
I regard the prequels as not-particularly-clever fanfiction.

It certainly helps me sleep at night. 😃
 
One of, if not the biggest problem with the prequels was George Lucas’ (apparent) belief that the audience would not be able to understand what a character was thinking or feeling unless the character explicitly stated it. The “NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!” bit just illustrates this perfectly.
