When did you last go to reconciliation?

I guess I have a really stupid question, if you go to confession and then repeat the same sin , do you keep going and repeating the confession till you get the problem solved? This sacrament was basically skipped over in RCIA. And in my parish , only 30 minutes prior to the Sat. Mass is alotted for confession. They dont make it easy for you to go often.
As they say, the only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask. 😉

Yes, you should confess the same sin each time you commit it. At least if the sin in question is a mortal sin. If it is a venial sin you are not required to confess it at all but many people find it helpful to confess venial sins and the Church encourages us to confess them. I find that confessing venial sins gives me added strength to overcome them, especially if I know I will have to confess them again if I fail. It can be quite humbling to confess the same sins over and over again but that is part of the growth process.

As for your other question, most parishes also offer the Sacrament by appointment so your options shouldn’t be limited to a half hour a week. Ask your pastor about this.
In His love,
Rhonda

For many years I went every 3 or 4 months. Several months ago, I started going monthly. It has made a HUGE difference in my spiritual life. I have now started to go every 2 weeks. Amazingly, the more frequently I go, the more sins I need to confess. The graces obtained from the sacrament really help the Holy Spirit to nudge your conscience. Even though I can’t remember the last mortal sin I confessed, I always come up with lots of venial ones!

God Bless,
Gary

I try to make it atleast once a week but sometimes family commitments and such hinder me.

I used to be on the ten year plan, but last year I decided to break that habit. The last time I went was on Christmas eve. I was so afraid of going (bolts of lightning, and such). But it was not too bad, I felt better afterwards. I do need to go again, and soon.

I try to go every two or three weeks. It is a humbling experience and makes me realize that I need God’s forgiveness and mercy. I can’t do it all alone.

I went today. Before today, about 4 weeks. Before then about 2 weeks. It is humbling, but rejuvinating to my relationship with Jesus and inspiration to fight off temptations.

Love & peace,
Bob

Yesterday:D I usually try to go every two weeks, ever since I read on the Vatican web site that Pope Paul the great suggested that. I read that a few years ago, when I was growing up I think we went every Saturday.

Off topic but on target: I have just read a terrific book, now reprinted and available from Roman Catholic Books. It is Pardon and Peace by Alfred Wilson, C.P., originally published in 1946. This book is only very slightly dated. It is remarkable how useful the insights are.

One of the most telling observations is that many people tend to confess to themselves, or to an imaginary God rather than to God himself . . .

OUTSTANDING. Bumped up the “quality” of my confessions by a mile.

I aim for monthly, or more. The last one was after 4 months. I felt really bad.:o

For me, it’s like an overdue bill. I’m always thinking about it. I worry about what’s going to happen, and the longer I go, the harder it is TO go. I walk in with lead-filled shoes and walk out on a cloud.:dancing:

I try and go once every few weeks. I would feel out of sorts if I didn’t.

I try to go at least once a month, whether I have committed a mortal sin or not (preferrably not!! :o ) and usually in conjunction with First Friday/First Saturday. I used to go with the ‘if I am not in mortal sin I don’t need to go’ philosophy. But as I have grown in faith and grace I have come to understand that without the grace of the sacrament of Reconcilliation, venial sins can easily lead to mortal sins. It is quite easy to slip over that line, satan just loves us to think we don’t ‘need’ to go to confession, when truly we do!
