As the topic says. What time does fast end? Sundown? Midnight? Other?

The Good Friday fast would end at midnight when Good Friday ends.

Would it be a sin for me to eat a meal past midnight to prevent from keeling over?

The topic asks about Good Friday…

…which ends at midnight.

The topic is about the Paschal Fast, which begins on Friday and the Church has requested us to keep it through Saturday, which ends 48 hours later.

Granted, the Church is mercifully vague about what it means to keep the fast. I would take it in general terms to mean that on Saturday we would again be allowed one full meatless meal, with two smaller ones which together do not equal the main one. Is that really so hard to keep without “keeling over”?

I could have sworn the topic reads When does fast end on good Friday?, not **When does *the Paschal ***fast end-] on good Friday/-]?? I must get my glasses checked. 🤓

The Church is indeed merciful. *Sacrosanctum Concilium does encourage keeping the fast through Holy Saturday where possible, but only a few years later the US bishops do not mention it at all in their Pastoral Statement On Penance And Abstinence.

(* I would not extend it beyond the Easter Vigil, however, for those who celebrate it :twocents:)

You will have to ask the person who asked about *“keeling over” *🤷 It was not I

It would definitely be hard to keep if one is type1 diabetic such as myself however I do refrain from meat but substitute some ther protein. The priest at my Parish makes sure that I am eating enough on that day

To be honest, I really don’t think the Church’s fasting requirements are very tough at all, so why do some Catholics think it’s such a big deal? You can still have 3 meals, one large and two smaller ones. Plus, you can still eat fish meat.

A real fast is NO FOOD. None, nada! Just some liquids. Would that be too much for the faithful to do for all Our Lord did for us, especially on Good Friday? Until your stomach starts grumbling, you haven’t really fasted.

The Good Friday fast IS the Paschal Fast. They are one in the same. The OP implicitly asked about the Paschal Fast.

Why would anyone keel over?? People with medical issues plus the young and old are exempt from fasting.
A healthy person is not likely to keel over considering fasting is not about no food but simply cutting down the quantity!!

Apart from that the fast ends at midnight on Good Friday. You can eat whatever you want after that.
