Hi Ryan, What we are talking about is Liturgical dance during Mass. That’s the whole point, it shouldn’t be done during the Holy Mass.DONT DO LITURGICAL IN MASS.
Amen. I am dreading the morrow…we have all-school-Mass which, essentially, means a Mass which is held in a noisy gym, accompanied by drums, ignores Church rubrics, and is generally apostate.…I also expect to hear:
…but never:
- “Eucharistic Minister”
- “Pastoral Administrator, Sister Soandso”
- “Faith Community”
- “Gospel reflection”
- Alternative lyrics for the Agnus Dei
- The Precious Blood being poured out into glass “chalices”
- “Lord of the Dance”
But then again, I may not have stuck around long enough to hear these other things! Find me at the orthodox parish across town.
- GIRM
- Redemptionis Sacramentum
- Latin
I think thats because most places figured out just how horrid they were.Is there now? Just curious. I can’t remember the last time I saw liturgical dancers.
This looks exactly like a Newman Center to which I once belonged.originally posted by HagiaSophia

I will have to add an Amen to your post.I think of holding hands and doing the wave to the Our Father.
When I hear “Liturgical Dancer” I wonder if there is title for someone who sticks their leg out into the aisle. Would that person be a “Liturgical Tripper”?
I know that was mean, but that’s what I thought of.

Spello:Did David Dance before the Lord?
This topic has been debated to death, and I have seen there is a great animosity over the issue. I have been enlightened by many CA views and articles…Originally Posted by Traditional Ang
Dancing before the Lord was appropriate to that culture. Dance was integral to their religion and their worship of God as well as their lives. Just about everything had a dance, and none of their lives could be said to be purely secular since religion permiated their whole society (they were “The People of God” living on the “Land God promised them”).
Ours doesn’t. Our culture is largely secular, and most people dance in secular settings for secular and often sinful purposes.
I don’t see how Liturgical Dancing, which is a completely made up form alien to our culture and to our religious expression, could mean anything in our culture like what it meant to King David and the ancient Israelites.
Can’t you see that we’re dealing with 2 comnpletely different cultural milieus, and, therefore, different meanings for the different peoples?

Example that fits my point; ewtn.com/library/Liturgy/zlitur52.htm
Have there been abuses & twisted ideas that have happen at Masses around our Country? Yes
There has also been a great deal of Spiritual renewal in the Church. Praise God!
What side of the coin do we want to focus on?
Am I a Bad Catholic because I like Liturgical Dance? I think it has a place in our culture & have seen it used VERY tactfully & spiritually to show the reverence to the Sprit of the Mass.
- Why can’t our culture look to the Traditions of the past for examples for Praising God in Dance?
- Dancing is often sinful??? Is that Western Dancing, Line dancing, tap dancing, Ball room dancing, Ballet, Salsa… Very Broad statement.
- “Alien to our culture” I see it is part of our Culture.
- Same people – People of God whom Praise God in Song, in Prayer, in Chat, in Silence, in Word, In the Sacraments, in Joy, in Honor, on there knees, with their Family, by oneself, at Mass, in renewal, on retreat… Through Dance??? Why not?
Fr. Dave:there is actually no such thing as Liturgical dance… there is sacred dance – but liturgically, dance is not within the Latin Rite. it is only seen in some places because it is an abuse in the liturgy – at least, in the West, where dance is not a part of the tradition or custom of the people/
I add a hearty “Amen!” to Mordacai’s words. :yup:When I hear “Liturgical Dancer” I thank the Good Lord for having never experienced it. Hopefully I never do.
God Bless and Mary Keep!

Is there any possibility that Fr Amorth might be willing to drop in my Methodist church the next time
