When is the most recent time you spoke with Jehovah Witnesses?

For me about ten minutes ago.

I listened to their spiel for a few minutes … two men … a newbie and a “suit” … and then asked if they had a bible with them … apologized for my appearance … was barefoot and had just come in from some gardening … disheveled and dirty … and asked them to turn to John 6.

I read John 6 around verse 50.

The “suit” was ready for me … had strings on pages dealing with eating blood.

But I hammered and repeated that John 6 is Jesus speaking.

Jesus himself.

That these are desert people … do not waste energy … but Jesus repeated Himself … and that only the Catholic Church preaches the Consecration and the Real Presence.

The “suit” started backing away …

I think I finally got on their “do not call” list. They haven’t been around for a few years now.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I open the door and tell them to wait one moment. I then grab my phone and a cigar and I proceed to debate them.

Haven’t in about 2 years… next time ask for the Bible verse that ‘supports’ the interpretation that Jesus and the angel Gabriel or Michael are one and the same… that to me is the most bizarre of their beliefs

The folks that come to my house are very nice. They know they can’t convert us so they just come every once in and a while give us a magazine and we talk about other thinks. Never pushy or anything like that, just a pleasant conversation.

That’s been my experience, too. I always invite them in for a cold drink, if I can, and let them rest a while while we make pleasant conversation. They figure out pretty quickly that scripture is off the menu. I’ve never met any pushy ones. Generally decent people that I’ve never regretted meeting.

I once rolled down my car window
and told two of them - (they go about in twos and threes)
To “ get a real job “ !
Laughed and drove off …etc

I know, I know, it was a uncatholic thing to do.
I repented an hour later.
I did feel a very slight twinge of guilt though…

New Years Day about 10 years ago. They are certainly nice enough people, well dressed black women who have always been polite to me.

Last summer two Jehovah’s witnesses came to my door with a pamphlet on why there was suffering in the world. They asked me for my thoughts, I told them what I believed regarding suffering as a Catholic… they told me they had similar beliefs, gave me a pamphlet and left. They were not pushy at all. I’ve never been visited again.

About two weeks ago,and the week before…they had their paperwork mixed up and apologised. When they are persistent I take the magazine and get the kitchen stove going ,grateful for the paper (after several attempts at no)
Sometimes I invite them in to admire Our Lady’s picture on the mantle ,thank them and tell them I’m happily catholic.

Congratulations! If more people would do that, they might just get the message and stop pestering those who don’t want them coming around.

I always engage them … and also the Mormons … John 6:50-70

Read up.

I always engage them … and also the Mormons …
The Mormons are young college type men from out of town- also well dressed although I don’t understand the LDS obsession with white shirts.

The JW’s are older, local folks , a totally different breed. I have never had Mormon missionaries come to my home and I’m 61 and lived many places here in Pittsburgh.

Of course, the Jehovah’s Witnesses are from Pittsburgh originally. Charles Taze Russell’s gravesite and pyramid are right on Cemetery Lane and his headquarters were on the site of current day Allegheny Center

Is that the fellow who predicted the end of the world twice and failed? Years ago I remember reading that people sold their homes and all and when the end of the world failed to happen that was a big crisis inside the watchtower organization

The founder of the JW’s , Charles Taze Russell, died in 1916.

President Eisenhower’s mum was an early JW.

That’s why Ike was the last man to be baptized while serving as US President.

Whenever my grandpa was here last.

JWs usually just leave stuff on the porch and go. I think they know my dad (and know he’s far from tolerant or interested).

They still come door to door around here.

I answered, and told them we’re Catholic. They thanked me for answering the door, wished me a good day, and that was that.

The last time I spoke to a Jehovah’s Witness they asked me for money I said I didn’t have any and I never saw them again.
