When Mormon missionaries call on a Jehovah Witness’ home (or vice versa).

I’d love to be a fly on that wall! 😃

:rotfl: :rotfl: They only have one thing in common- complaints about the Catholic Church.

Actually, they have something else in common.
They both claim to be the Restoration of Pure, True Christianity in the last days after the Great Apostasy which began after the Apostles died.

I too would love to be a fly on that wall.

Interesting to imagine someone trying to convince someone else that they are in the wrong cult:D

😃 I can so see that! Maybe they’ll try to convert eachother? Or will they just stand there?

Although w/ Adventists, Campbellites and all the other “restoration” groups of the 19th century. Talk about a lack of originality!

It’s a conspiracy! What a surprise. They probably get together and discuss their game plans for converting the Christians.

Whose bible has the most books???
The Mormons, of course. They have three more books - Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price - than the JWs. The also believe in “continuing revelation” - so conference talks from their “apostles” are also regarded as “modern-day scripture.”

Off the record, I noticed in your profile that you’re from Brighton - I’m a professor at MSU!

all the best,

A Baptist friend of mine used to say the JW were the nicest people on earth because they do all that work to help 144,000 Jewish men get to Heaven!🙂

The recent index for worldwide JW membership was 6,000,000.

But according to them heaven only takes reservations for 144,000.

Hmmm. What a bummer for the other 5,800,000. Better find another Hilton.

I began studying with JWs while I was still a Mormon. Although we could agree that Jesus was not God (no trinitarian belief), their beliefs seemed as absurd to me as they both do now. Thank God that I didn’t leave one cult for another, but the JWs were more attractive to me than any other because of the trinitarian view.
Now I’ve crossed the Tiber, I cannot imagine how my life would be without Jesus as my Lord.

Mormons don’t believe Jesus is God? I thought they considered Him their savior? I am sure I read somewhere that they considered Him one of their many Gods. I even know some Mormons who consider themselves Christian.

Isnt their belief that they themselves can become Gods?

Anyways I was jsut looking for clarification.

No. Jesus isn’t God to a Mormon. Jesus is an elder brother, but He is not God. There is no trinitarian theology in Mormonism either.

Interesting tundramom. Thank you for the clarification. Mormonism to me is so confusing :whacky: and it is even more confusing when you have mormons telling you different things about their beliefs. You would think Jesus being God (Or in a Mormon’s case, not God) would be a fundamental belief known by all Mormons?

God bless

According to something I read recently about the JW religion, they believe all the “slots” in heaven are filled, so the JWs around now can only hope at best for a spot on refurbished earth. Bummer!

Hey Steph!

When I was an active member of the LDS church, I thought with unmistakeable clarity that Mormons were “Christians”, however, now as a Catholic I have NO CLUE how anyone can consider Mormonism even a distant affiliate to Christianity.

Even more puzzling is the role of the “Jesus Christ” figure in Mormon theology. Consider former LDS apostle Bruce R. McConkie’s 1982 address “Our Relationship with the Lord”:

speeches.byu.edu/reader/reader.php?id=6843

Although Mormons “love and search” both the Father and the Son, they do not WORSHIP the Son.

So the emphasis of “Jesus Christ” in the name of the LDS church since 1995, the missionary discussions that seek to establish ties between Mormonism and Christianity, all of this stuff is a marketing ploy with the primary objective to gain converts from Christian sects. It’s nothing but smoke and mirrors. Period.

Is Jesus a lower divinity or the Son of a God who worked up the ranks to be one? :DThe topic might be something like that.
