Is Jesus a lower divinity or the Son of a God who worked up the ranks to be one? :DThe topic might be something like that.
Jesus was never fully divine in nature or substance. Mormons believe in a pre-existence and Christ was an intelligence that was giving a spirit body by heaven parents (who also happen to be our heavenly parents, too, in Mormon theology).

The “Heavenly Father” of Mormonism is also regarded as an exalted man, who was a mortal at one stage of his existence/eternal progression that died (potentially sinned as well!), was resurrected and was perfected, achieving godhood in the same nature that we will also someday in Mormon theology.

So to answer your questions, yes on both accounts. In Mormon theology their Jesus is of a lower divinity (that’s why Mormons don’t pray to him) and had to come to earth to work out his own salvation (or at least exaltation) here on earth.

God bless

Wait wait wait.If God started as a man and became a God, who created the universe, man and the preexistence? And where did the intelligence come from? Is there like a supergod who was there in the beginning? Or did this all happen after death of some god or what?

Exactly…what’s the “first cause”. Mormonism really falls apart the deeper you look at it.

Man I’m talking to you on two different threads at once. this is hard.

So Mormonism does not really have a genesis type thing unless it is Moroni. Correct?

Have any of you ever wanted to ask a JW, “What if you are No. 144,001?”😃

No. Moroni isn’t part of Genesis to Mormons. They do believe in the creation, but they believe that they existed previous to creation in a spirit state. It’s rather confusing isn’t it?

I remember when I was a teenager in seminary (mormon seminary is a class for high schoolers) the teacher taught on the pre-existence and it was like a never ending thread of gods and “intelligences” where there was no beginning and no end. It was rather mind boggling at that point to me. They believe that God the Father had a father and so on and so on.

I don’t think that they are disappointed that they don’t have what they call a “Heavenly Hope”. They believe that their “Earthly Hope” will be as glorious as Heaven, and actually more productive because they will have a perfected earth.

I began studying with JWs while I was still a Mormon. Although we could agree that Jesus was not God (no trinitarian belief), their beliefs seemed as absurd to me as they both do now. Thank God that I didn’t leave one cult for another, but the JWs were more attractive to me than any other because of the trinitarian view.
Now I’ve crossed the Tiber, **I cannot imagine how my life would be without Jesus as my Lord. **

👍 👍 :blessyou:
😃 I can so see that! Maybe they’ll try to convert eachother? Or will they just stand there?

No. Jesus isn’t God to a Mormon. Jesus is an elder brother, but He is not God. There is no trinitarian theology in Mormonism either.

They also regard satan as thier brother as well. NEVER let a Mormon call you ‘brother’.

The one I find baffling about Mormons, is that even their own members do not realize that Mormons are not pro-life. In fact the church accepts abortion for a number of reasons…and it’s in their 1998 Handbook of Instructions: Abortion may be performed in the following circumstances, rape or incest, mother’s life in jeopardy, or a fetus has severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive.

But Mormons decry gambling, pornography, same sex marriages and no need to to pray for divine guidance or seek church approval for such acctivities, for there will be no divine finessing of morality to permit even an occasional bingo game or a prayerful game of poker!!! But abortion…totally acceptable. Guess they need our prayers too!

When Mormon missionaries call on a Jehovah Witness’ home (or vice versa).

I’d love to be a fly on that wall! 😃
Funny thing… this actually happened to my husband before we got married (he’s a JW). He had just moved into our apartment and someone knocked on the door. He answered and there were 2 Mormons. Hahaha… they tried to preach to him about their religion and Smith. He lead them on for a bit, then he got his bible out and said if they were interested that he’d be glad to teach them about Jehovah. They just ran out of there. :rotfl:

If I had been there I would have come out with a crucifix and a Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth tract and see which direction they’d go…

but will they still be going door to door is what I’m wondering
😉

I actually know a JW who had Mormons come to his house. He offered to prove the BOM to be a fraud, and the Mormons left abruptly!

I invited some Ms & JDubs to spend time with me and all went well they agreed with many points and there was much chat and agreeance until I questioned them about where their power came from to go door to door.

I then told them of the miracls that had happened through Jesus by myself, such as stopping the wind stopping the rain causing a persons leg to be the same as the other healing the sick. All this as you would know in the name of Jesus Christ. Tha was the end of that.

So I asked then were the words in the bible only for those of the times of Jesus or are they also for us. They are allso for us they exclamed. At that I asked them how come they don’t accept Mary as their mother, since Jesus last words were telling us to do just that. the last words Jesus spoke to any person. Also how come they don’t believe in God’s gift of miracles and provieion,. They then walked out.
Well!!!

Please what nationality is this? :hmmm:
En arkhe en ho Logos, kai ho Logos en pros ton Theon, kai Theos en ho Logos.

God bless and sorry about the spelling
Koine Greek.

“In Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and God was the Word.”

“Phoberon to empesein eis kheiras Theou zontos.”

“Fearful thing the to fall into hands God living”

I formed an opinion many years ago that a person who lies and tells stories is more gullible that a person who dose not. So I guess each would convert the other and the confusion would continue. If only they would pray Come Holy Spirit.

Why do Mormons believe in different gods? Can we become one?
If you want their understanding and where they get this understanding, It came from Joseph Smith. I think the first time i heard of this doctrine, (and I say this lightly) is first. Can you become a God, is this possible, I mean is it??? might be the question, or are you already one. Let just say, for your thinking, forget your religious dogma thinking mind for a moment. You have never been taught, anything about Jesus, and you never read the bible O.K. Play along with me, for right now. When I saw hercules the cartoon, and saw zusus (GOD misspelled) He picks up hercules and tells him, he is his father, hercules responses with these words, if your my father, that would make me a God. Now lets change the battlefield. Old Testament, now this blew me away it even scared me, Psalms Taken from the King James. Psalms 82:6 Quote “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High” Now look at John 10, here Jesus is confronted with the very same thing, of what we think of these Mormons, John 10: 30 I and my Father are one.31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32. Jesus answered them. Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33. The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. (Then Jesus makes this profound statement) 34.Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are Gods? 35. If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; WOW, so I think that maybe these Mormons know something we don’t, thats true. Think about it. We are the children of the most High, we are the off springs of God, which as hercules said makes us a God. Christ taught it, it’s a doctrine, if we reject it we are no different than the Jews that wanted to stone him for claiming to be so, read the scriptures. I am going to do some praying on this, I don’t want to be led astray by the weakness of mortal man, just because some Jew doesn’t believe it. I mean that’s why they kill Christ, Because he claimed to be the Son, but are we not his son also. IT’S Scripture, so it’s true. My eyes have been opened to them, and darkness is in the unbelief. I know how we feel about the Mormons, but this doctrine, is heavy. This doctrine is beyond Man only God can teach me this.
