When to pray the Rosary at Low Mass

At Low Mass when is it best to pray the Rosary. I thought from the Offertory to the end of the Cannon?

At ANY Mass, be it EF (Low or High) or OF, you pray the rosary BEFORE or AFTER Mass. NOT DURING MASS!!
 
Historically, it was common to pray the rosary during Mass; however, there has been a movement away from that practice.

The Mass, regardless of its form, is still the most perfect form of prayer. To participate in another prayer, even the Rosary, is to dilute that. I don’t think there is any formal prohibition against praying the Rosary during the Mass, but it is becoming less common for the reason stated above.

Yes, it was a common practice in the past, and even if there was no formal prohibition of it, it has no business being done during the Mass. (Would that qualify as a pre-Vatican ll “liturgical abuse” if the priest knew it was being done and didn’t bring it up after the Mass? ;))

Obviously this section isn’t as traditional as I thought. What is one meant to do during the silence of the Cannon? Surely pray? And the rosary is a prayer. Thats how it figures to me.
 
I would follow in my missal what the Priest is saying to God etc
 
Once again, I am learning something new here. There seem to be people who support praying the rosary during Mass but I am from the place where it is done before or after but not during.

I am not sure I understand your question- during almost all the Mass the prayers of the Priest are inaudible and the during the Cannon I pray with the same words as the Priest does-with all my heart.

Well, we cannot help that the level of “Traditional” you think this section should be doesnt fit your ideal, But try reading along in your missal the prayers that your priest is saying instead of praying the rosary during Mass.

Cannons are not all that silent 😃

That said, the Canon is the centerpiece of the Mass, and the time at which the Holy Sacrifice is offered to God. It seems our prayers should be directed in that manner, as a community of believers, most particularly at that moment. The silence is hardly a pause in the action, as we pray for the Holy Spirit to descend on the Holy Gifts, making them the Most Pure Body and Precious Blood.
 
In my mind, I assume people prayed the Rosary during Mass as a result of being illiterate and having nothing printed available way back when to read anyway, combined with poor catechesis (nothing new under the sun) so they did not know how to follow along with the priest. It perhaps the best they could do with what they had at the time and became the “done thing.”?
 
There are many different ways of actively participating in Holy Mass. One could follow along in the Missal, and as as someone said pray in their heart the prayers the Priests is saying. Say the Divine Mercy Chaplet - that would be particularly appropriate: “I offer you the body, blood soul and divinity” the same thing the Priest is doing to God the Father in a physical way.
Following the Mass in a missal is the best way to participate, but saying the Rosary is not some terrible action.
 
There are various ways to unite ones self with the Holy Sacrifice. The ideal was out-lined by Pope St Pius X. Not every one can do that though and the rosary is an appropriate manner of doing so if you cannot use other methods. I suggest using the “Eucharistic Rosary” at Mass. That being the mysteries of the rosary and how they relate to the Most Holy Eucharist.

As for the when… I’m not sure. I don’t pray the rosary during Mass my self. And I don’t think I could time it right. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to say a chaplet of the rosary and Mass, even Low Mass, lasts longer than that. What I have noticed in some will pause during their recitation. At the Gospel, for instance, and at the elevation, etc. Just figure out what’s best for yourself.
 
I once prayed the Rosary at a first Saturday low Mass and it was a great meditation.

It’s very easy to memorize the six major intentions of the Canon and pray them in union with the priest even without a missal, so I wouldn’t pray the Rosary then.

I think it’s best suited for during the Mass of the Catechumens.
 
I thought that the rosary was not supposed to be prayed during Mass.

You can pray the Rosary at any time during the Mass. However, I would stop during the Canon and take it up again at the Pater.
 
Please see this from ‘Marialis Cultus’, 1974, Pope Paul 6th’s Apostolic Exhortation.

‘A mistake’. ‘Unfortunately the practice still persists here and there’. It hardly sounds like it is good practice to say the rosary during Mass, does it.
